Re: I don't know about you, but I'm feeling '22 (tour chat)

Cool let's take a look at '22's lowest - Brandon, MS http://dmbalmanac.com/TourShowSet.as...169&where=2022

Things I like about Brandon '22-
Break for It
Grace
Midset Tripping Billies (perfect spot)
Midset Grey Street (perfect spot)
Break Free
Two Step closer (perfect spot)
Space Between E1

Things I don't like about Brandon '22:
FTWII
You & Meh
Why I am E2

Things I like about Riverbend '21:
Pig
Squirm
YNK
Grace
Nancies>Warehouse midset

Things I don't like about Riverbend '21:
Can't Stop
Satellite
Why I am
FTWII
You & Meh
Bayou
Grey Street Closer (already had been hammered into the ground as a set closer in '21)
OATB E1
DDTW E2 (don't like it as a closer)

Yup guess it's still '22>'21 for me still I guess.

    Not bad

'21 was easily better than '22 in my opinion and that doesn't mean I think '22 is bad, I think it's kind of weird how defensive some people get over their preferences (not you specifically)

Well at this rate, Bayou, TGIY, Sledgehammer, and COCO will end up in the least rare 2022 show lol

Hope so for those of yall going! Looking (and re-looking, if that's a word) at the Alpine sets again, I am starting to think N2 got a little too much crap at least on the boards. ANother rarity or two - Raven, Typical, or another classic regularly played, a la Seek Up, would have made a positive difference for sure.

But the show had Stone, Crush, Dreaming Tree, Jimi (most would agree it's been really good this year sans cover interpolations), Lie In w/Krasno in addition to Granny, So Right and some other pretty-universally liked, "+1" sorta tunes. No, it wasn't perfect, and I get high expectations since it's Alpine. But I doubt there will be any other show with all of those BTCS classics and the other tunes in there.

I would have had a really good time at the show. Not saying that means it would have been beloved by everyone, but the set looks better than it did initially imo. Hope SPAC gets two great nights. Wouldn't be surprised if DIDO and Recently come up again, among other great ones.

I agree with most of this. The worst shows in '22 still have a lot of good stuff. Had people not went in with expectations of certain songs I think many would have enjoyed it more, myself included.

Another big take on Alpine N2 is that it disappointed based on not delivering tour bust outs like Break for It, Break Free, and Shotgun. It begs the question "how do people have such high expectations for '22 sets if the tour has allegedly been so meh?" It speaks to the good stuff that has been happening so far in the tour. None the less it is still weird that they dropped the ball so hard on a Sunday Alpine N2 show of all shows though.

I've been enjoying the 2022 tour, but I have to admit I keep wanting "something" a little more from it as it presses onward. I'll give them credit, performance-wise they have clearly been working on some things and making some tired things more fresh sounding than they've been in years.

I feel like we haven't truly had any significant bust outs to make this "Oh that's the year they finally broke out/played again!" since the first two shows of the tour.

Dreaming Tree, Shotgun, Break Free, Break For It - That's it

Yes, we've had some others but Idea of You, Stolen Away, Steady as We Go, Come On Come On, Old Dirt Hill and Time Bomb aren't pushing the needle on additional travel/extra tickets purchased. All of which have shown up during this era (2018-present) of the band already.

(This is just a thought/observation/discussion thing, not a gripey complaint that if Get In Line doesn't show up the next show this band is eff'd!)

Fairly uninteresting tour really (which doesn't mean it is bad), they've shuffled around the placement of the same songs and have had several one off tour debuts of songs that should be in regular rotation. I think people having high expectations for the major tour stops is consistent with any other year.

Pretty average considering it was Alpine.

Can't think of a better list of bust outs/liberations in recent years.

This is really how they've always done it: Each tour has its flavor of deep cut bust outs that get some play, a few other lesser rarities will get sprinkled in throughout the tour, then of course a pretty consistent core rotation of mainstay songs.

Very true, why that SPAC N1 2021 at -4 is so disappointing.

Toy soldier said it best and I agree.

I’m having fun and I love seeing this band but 22 is simply not that interesting. Nothing has changed song wise.

Since 2018, we’ve been in the buddy era of 30-40 songs and Dave sure loves them. Each era has their own set of 30-40 songs. We just happen to not like most of the current ones. Simple as that.

You keep referencing SPAC '21 N1 to me, in case it's a gotcha or something I wasn't there, and yes glad we agree people have high expectations for the major tour stops.

Not a gotcha, just simply stating it as such. Still lots thrown out there to discredit '22 like it wasn't a problem in '21 (like one night of a major stop being a bit of a clunker).

Well, then lets take a look at them. Let's go just Buddy era DMB, and there's more for each year, but I'm trying to keep it to the "message board friendly" bust outs. And if a song has been a part of every tour after its "bust out" then its not gonna go on subsequent years' list. Play count irrelevant.

2018 Summer - #27, What You Are, You Never Know, Hello Again, Captain, JTR, The Last Stop, #34

2018 Fall - Kill the King, Sleep to Dream Her, Cortez the Killer, Christmas Song

2019 - Sugar Will, The Maker, If I Had It All, Water Into Wine, Joyride, I'll Back You up, Spoon, Drunken Soldier

2021 - Hello Again, Sweet, Sweet Up and Down, Drive In Drive Out, Christmas Song, What You Are, Broken Things, Dive In

They crushed it at every major tour stop last year in my opinion, also there were notable shows where they were clearly trying to make it a special night, haven't quite felt that this year yet. That doesn't mean I think the tour is terrible by any stretch, I enjoyed Mansfield and Hartford.

Can't seem to remember what this was. I remember you conveniently switching out BTCS for BS from Alpine N2 to try to make a point about too many covers being played in comparison to their more popular albums but that has nothing to do with being at the show versus not.

Gotta love the condescending comments making it seem like you're wrong on subjective opinions on music. But yeah I am the one that brings the toxicity when these are the replies I get to me simply stating I like this years bust outs more than previous years

Shouldn't you be off trying to vulture some inside information for SPAC and then trying to post it to make it seem like you broke the news?

Oops my bad. Enjoy the rest of your day man. You seem like you have a lot on your mind. I'd log off the boards and clear your head.

I truly have no idea what Alpine is talking about or even doing at this point, but alas.

Looking forward to listening to the latest episode while on a little roadtrip this weekend, Bruce. Great title for it, btw.

and cause I feel generous this evening: Alp- on the radio yesterday, Ari did say he thinks they've brought more energy in 2022 than 2021.

A little surprising to me, and not something I agree with, but it was said. Looking forward to the pre-show stream tmrw.
