Re: What (besides politics) irritates you?

Pretty sure when I got summoned for jury duty it was actually for my dad. No way they actually wanted a 19yo. But, we have the same name. I remember him opening that piece of mail and handing it to me - "yeah, this is for you".

GBoard is great, but if you're missing Swype, you should check out SwiftKey.

I think I tried SwiftKey years ago. May have to at least look into it again, but I feel like I hear most people say they prefer Gboard anyway. I dunno.

Re: What (besides politics) irritates you?

My office is representing a seller of a coop unit in NYC. Sent an email to the coop asking what fees the seller (our client) will have to pay at closing (usually there is a transfer tax, flip tax, etc.). We like to give our client an idea of what their expenses will be before the closing to avoid surprises and give the clients a chance to move money between bank accounts if necessary. My email listed all the fees I currently know about and asked if there are any others I don't know about.

The response I received was, "yes there are other fees". Is it not implied that I wanted to know what the other fees are? Pure laziness.

Idk if it's true, but I was always told if you are able to reschedule your jury duty, to reschedule it during a holiday week that you are not traveling on. I am trying it this year. I am not traveling on July 4 so I rescheduled for that week. Apparently, since most of the judges vacation, not much goes on and you are typically dismissed early or told not to come in all together. I believe in NY, this still satisfies your obligations. Not sure about other states.

As a result, most of the cases are pushed to the week before or after the holiday weeks, so I was always told to try and avoid those weeks.

currently shopping around for a rooftop cargo box, so we can use it for skiing in the winter and carrying cargo on road trips.

found someone selling a nice one on facebook, pretty good price. showed the pic to my wife (it'll be going on her car), and she says "i dont like the shape."

uhh. its a fucking tube-esque box that goes on your roof. they're all the same with minor variations. who cares.

    the search continues.

Re: What (besides politics) irritates you?

finally done with the most annoying, pain in the ass oil change ever.

i got a 2015 subaru legacy a few months ago and it was due for its first oil change since in bought it. i pull it into the garage and get it jacked up, and find that i can't get the drain plug off. two of my roommates and another friend all try and can't get the damn thing off. theres a subaru garage not far from my house that i had the car inspected at, they say they'll try to get the plug loosened for me if i stop by. the guy said he thinks he got it, but he wasn't sure. i jack it up again and still nothing. the bolt is so tightly put on there and worn down to the point where wrenches can't get it loose.

so i schedule an appointment to have the oil changed and a new drain plug put in. 30 minute job turns into almost 2 1/2 hours at the garage. my subaru just happens to be one of the 10% that uses a different size drain plug. the garage has plenty of plugs in stock, all the common ones. so they get a plug ordered and delivered. wrong size. the manager goes to a dealership. they don't have power due to the blizzard that hit denver on wednesday. he orders plugs from 3 other places while on the way to another dealership. all 3 of those show up and are the wrong size. he finally gets back with 2 plugs in his hand and one of them fits. the guys are the garage are great and did everything they could to get it taken care of. it was just such a pain in the ass to go through though.

really hoping next time i can get this new bolt off myself so i can just do it in my garage like normal.

ugh! I hate that too. Always crumples up on itself when I'm transferring it to whatever I'm covering.

(And yes, I know I can cover the thing directly, but we have one of those industrial-sized boxes of plastic wrap that we got from Costco for like 7 bucks, so it's not always practical).

Fuck Tupperware too... or any sort of plastic food saving containers. Switched to glass (pyrex) a few years ago and never looking back.

If I recall correctly, plastic wrap used to work a lot better than it does now. The companies that make it actually did a good thing and got rid of the cancer causing ingredients, making it less effective.

I do feel like plastic wrap was much easier in my youth.

Now I cant even get an evenly cut piece off the rack. The "cutting" mechanism is shit ill-prepared for the plastic wrap.

Use press n seal. It's a lot better than plastic wrap.

(I mean, I prefer containers as well, but sometimes you need to cover a dish).

Also, accidentally cutting yourself on it is irritating as well.

You need to be very careful with this going forward. Stripping the threads on the oil pan would be an expensive fix.

i got a 2015 subaru legacy a few months ago and it was due for its first oil change since in bought it. i pull it into the garage and get it jacked up, and find that i can't get the drain plug off. two of my roommates and another friend all try and can't get the damn thing off. theres a subaru garage not far from my house that i had the car inspected at, they say they'll try to get the plug loosened for me if i stop by. the guy said he thinks he got it, but he wasn't sure. i jack it up again and still nothing. the bolt is so tightly put on there and worn down to the point where wrenches can't get it loose.

so i schedule an appointment to have the oil changed and a new drain plug put in.

That's one of the reasons I avoid other people working on my shit. I've had it happen with several oil filters that forced me to smash the damn canister and pound a punch through it to get it to rotate.

That's the reason I like to do my own oil changes as well and hand-tighten the plug. I've noticed a lot of shops do not hand-tighten which leads to it being over-tightened impossible to get off the next time. One of the reasons (as well as $$) that I started changing my own oil a few years ago.

(I mean, I prefer containers as well, but sometimes you need to cover a dish).
So press n seal is definitely better, and seals great...once you get it off the damn roll.

Press and seal used to tear very easily, now it is terrible.
