Could be that, for example I switched to Roku because Amazon won’t support YouTube TV.

Apparently Amazon has beef with Disney in general: https://gizmodo.com/so-what-did-amaz...ime-1837374037

The fine print on that from the D23 website:

    Quote:
Valid only from August 26, 2019 through September 2, 2019 at 11:59 PM PT. Promotional offer available to all D23 General, Gold or Gold Family Members who have an active membership as of 11:59PM PT on September 1, 2019. Valid for US residents with US payment method only.
The website also notes it can take up to 36 hours to get your code. So I’d sign up for D23 sooner than later even if you’re gonna wait to pay.

There's no way to get the 3 year deal as the bundle of Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ is there?

Not that I’m aware of, but how badly do you want ESPN+? If you want ESPN+ the $12.99 bundle is the best option.

Otherwise Disney+ on the 3 year deal = $3.92 a month. Hulu which is $5.99 by itself. Just those two would set you back $9.91 a month.

Yeah, that makes sense. Don't really want ESPN+ right now, just figured I had a chance to get it and Disney+ both for only a dollar more than I pay monthly right now for ad-free Hulu, but the other is a better deal for sure if I switch to ad-supported Hulu.

I do assume ESPN will start to paywall more premier content as they renew rights deals with more prominent leagues and that ESPN+ will be something I will very likely want in the next year or two, so if I could lock that in at a lower rate somehow I would be potentially interested.

Roku's are pretty damn cheap (start at $30) and support basically every video service. Some of the better models are pricier but $30 for a Roku Express is a pretty low one-time entry price if Disney+ seems worthwhile to you otherwise.

I mean, I personally would do it. But my wife will not be happy to learn that in order to get a new streaming service that will cost us more money, we have to spend more money to get a device to play it on

She also hates learning new devices. She likes to just turn on the tv and select a program. She gets frustrated when you have to swap back and forth because this device has that and that device has this.

Just 'accidentally' smash one of the FireTV's and get a new RokuTV. Problem solved.

Well, whoever has West Wing gets my money. I really don't have much use for anything else. I can find docs elsewhere, my movie library is already over 400 titles... Netflix has West Wing and Lucifer. That's all I use it for, really.

I don't think so, unless they end up merging Hulu into this down the road. It's more their version of Netflix, an on-demand streaming platform.

People on the Hulu side claim Disney+ will be available as an add-on: https://www.slashfilm.com/hulu-disney-add-on/

Since Disney owns Hulu, it makes sense. So if you want Hulu to be your main hub you can add Live TV and Disney+

D23 is free to join, but you need to be signed up before Sept 1st to qualify for the offer and sign up for the 3 year deal by Sept 2nd.

Since the thread got bumped, just a note for Verizon subscribers. If you're eligible for the free year to Disney+ you can add it to whatever plan you already bought.

    https://www.theverge.com/2019/10/22/...data-star-wars

    Quote:
The deal, which is valued at $84, is available to new and existing 4G LTE and 5G unlimited customers as well as Fios broadband or 5G home wireless internet customers, according to a press release. The announcement comes as part of a broad new partnership between Disney and Verizon. Under the new deal, Verizon will become the exclusive US wireless carrier partner for Disney+.

Verizon has confirmed that customers who pre-purchased a Disney+ subscription can still take advantage of the free one-year offer. Pre-purchased Disney+ subscriptions will effectively be paused while the one-year free offer is in effect, and then kick in after the 12-month period is over.

The HBO Max lineup is pretty decent. I think the only downside for AT&T is they're the most expensive streamer at $14.99. I wonder how much Peacock is going to cost. Once that gets going how many fan favorite shows will remain on Netflix?

    Cost Per Month

    HBO Max - $14.99
    Netflix - $12.99
    Hulu - $11.99 (ad supported $5.99)
    Showtime - $10.99
    CBS - $9.99 (ad supported $5.99)
    Prime - $8.99
    Starz - $8.99
    Disney+ - $6.99
    AppleTV+ - $4.99

chromecast is the way to go, works with basically all mobile apps and from your internet browser.

If we're talking physical devices, i think the Apple TV is the best. But for practical use, you really can't go wrong with a Roku. The OS is so simple and it works with everything.

I'm leaning Roku, I like the the fact that it has a remote and that the remote is similar to a TV one.
