My favorite band as well. Believe me, they've truly changed music for me. But, that doesn't meant they're the best. Favoritism doesn't mean anything for abilities.

The problem with this list is the requirement: big acts. I can name 15 drummers NOT on that list that'd destroy every one of them. And it's obviously pandering, as Chambers, Colaiuta, and Gadd would make Peart look like Travis Barker. Steve Smith is too low, as well.

So, this is obviously a joke of a list. Beauford at 15? For this list, ehh... but, of the true greats, not a chance.

    .
True, but Dave has written far superior songs with original sounding guitar riffs. Mayer is technically good, but there are a million technically good guitar players in the world.

This is pure opinion. Songwriting is subjective. I can find you a ton of people who will tell you Mayer is a better songwriter. I would disagree with them and side with you, but that doesn't mean we're right. Songwriting is not something that is quantifiable.

I would still take those two songs. And those are both on par with the majority of John Mayers songs. Either way, this is neither the time nor place for this discussion.

    Back to Crater.

I happen to think you're insane, but you're entitled to your opinion. The original point was Dave vs. John guitar-wise and obviously that shouldn't be a question. The fact that it is displays how biased this site is, and why RLLRRR shouldn't necessarily be persecuted for whatever his belief of Carter is.

I don't know what exactly he said about Carter in the other thread, but everything he's said here I agree with. Carter is far from the best drummer alive...let alone the best of all-time.

When trying to argue Dave's guitar ability you chose Dreaming Tree?

Did you all miss the fact that I said John is a better guitar player? Much better in fact. He just doesn't have the songwriting to skills to back it up. I argued for the fact that Dave, while not as technically proficient, can write unique songs that fit his guitar style (although, less so post 2000).

But, he's getting there. Battle Studies is a great album, and a monster live. Heartbreak Warfare and Assassin are amazing. Give him some, and we'll be seeing some amazing Mayer stuff.

Plus, the John Mayer Trio is amazing as well. Yes, a blues band, but still pure awesome.

I love Dave's writing, and vastly prefer it over John's, but I recognize that John could play Dave's ass off any day of the week.

Guitar playing is important, but I think songwriting is more important when it comes to the genre and crowd that Dave and John both seem to play for.

JM already achieved greatness with Continuum. That album was brilliant. Battle Studies is okay but nothing compared to Continuum IMO. And yes, JMT kicks ass. Steve Jordan FTW.

Steve Jordan <-- one of those drummers you "Carter is the greatest eva!!!" people should look into.
