I look forward to the reaction here when DMB doesn't perform Spoon with Alanis.

I'll be there! Looks like we will likely get Galactic onstage before DMB. I'm good with that. Although the rest of the undercard looks pretty weak compared to past years.

I'd like to go. Jazzfest 2013 was one of the most fun times I've had at a DMB show and I love New Orleans.

What kind of stage does DMB play on? What is the seating set up?

Never went to this, but really contemplating going - thanks!

Just the normal main stage. There is no seating. You can go sit in front of main stage all day if you want to be up close or you can just wander around and then find a spot to sit and watch when they go on.

As must as I love DMB... walk around... there are so many great bands at these things.

They have had 3 or 4 GA bleachers set up behind and on the side of the field for the past few years.

I mentioned this in the rumors thread - many hotels have 30 to 45 day cancellation policies, and many others don't have any. I guess I am staying at a Hampton Inn 30 miles out if I go.

Not true for the Acura stage where the headliners play. There is a fence set back about 30 feet from the stage for the heathens buying a regular GA ticket. There's a VIP section right in front of the stage for those shelling out big bucks and other corporate attendees.

We did the same thing last time, we stayed a ways away. We took a cab in. however, it was hard as heck to find a cab to get back. Maybe the rain didn't help.

    Re: *** Official Jazzfest 2019 ***

Thinking about hitting JazzFest this year. Have been to NO many times, but never JazzFest. I have a few questions about the show:

    1) Will DMB play the main stage, which I think is the Acura?

    2) Generally speaking, what time do they go on? Is it an evening show?

    3) Is it standing room only? I know it will get packed, but how far in advance of them going on do you recommend being there?

    4) Uber/Cab situation? Is is terrible getting out of there after?

Any other tips/suggestions for a newbie?

    Thanks!

    Dunno about 1 or 2.

    3. Yes, standing room only. But everyone is kinda spaced out so you can work your way through the crowd to get close pretty easily.

    4. It was easy to get a cab in. Hard as heck to find a cab to get out. Took us about 30 minutes of walking around to find one.

Unless it's changed in the last few years, the section closest to the stage is open to anybody who is willing to stand. No chairs/blankets allowed. Usually it fills up by the time the 2nd to last performer comes on, so if you can handle standing for about 4 hours, you can get a great spot. Of course, if all your stuff is farther back, you'll have to find your way back to retrieve it after the show ends, and people have cleared out.

There is a VIP section, but that's behind the SRO area, and it's far less crowded.

DMB being the main act of the day should 99% likely be at the Acura stage.

The band will most likely play 5:30-7pm. The festival runs 11-7 daily with 90 minute sets typically being the longest for headliners (they may allow 2 hours for the special Rolling Stones day to play the entire set of their upcoming tour coupled with the insane ticket markeup for that day).

Right but don't expect a full set. Typical festival set list expectations with maybe 1-2 guests should be the bar. Fest is awesome though and worth the overall experience at least once.

Well maybe it changed after I went in 2013, but it seems to be back to the same way with a VIP section. The bold simply isn't true (for the Acura stage)...it's a VIP area. Here's the page with the ticket information: http://www.nojazzfest.com/tickets/

The Grand Marshall VIP pass for the 2nd Weekend (May 2, 3, 4 & 5) goes for $2,000 and it's already sold out. Look at the VIP comparison chart and it shows you how the Grand Marshal VIP gives you an 'Up Front of Acura Stage' standing section.

So if you buy a GA ticket and expect to get railed, yeah, you'll be on a rail, but it won't be up front near the stage...you'll be back a few yards with the common folk

This is so true. So much good music and food to get exposed to. Opportunities to hear music downtown.

Even though we got drenched (Dave even got wet) and risked getting struck by lightning, I don't regret going at all.

Map out your food when they release the list (carry cash!) of vendors and don't just hang at the Acura stage all day. Being close to DMB is fun but going to other stages and just jamming out randomly or walking around with a marching band/parade inside the festival is the best.

Do they no longer have a "No Chairs" Standing Room area in front of the general public with chairs & blankets section? I am certain there was a SRO section open to anybody, because I remember the year when it started, and people were not happy since it pushed everyone else further back.

Hmmmmmm...yeah, I don't know. Perhaps a local who's been there recently can help.

Stage...then VIP area...SRO...chairs...bleachers all the way in the back...

Not sure what will be left after the Stones play on Thursday...sounds like they
Will put in a walkway into the crowd...?...so that’s different...

If you want to be close get there early or atleast one act before DMB comes
On...so yes walk around, check out other stages and bands...food is great

We definitely go for the food. Music is a bonus. Have to have the Cochon de lait, Crawfish Monica and Strawberry Lemonade every year. Try to try something new every year, but those are can't miss for me.

There is a cab stand across the street from the Gentilly pedestrian entrance (https://www.nojazzfest.com/info/festival-map/). I generally go to the Sea Horse (a bar near the cab stand) and have a drink while waiting for the crowd to die down a little bit. The line for the cabs generally moves pretty fast, and the prices for cabs are almost guaranteed to be cheaper than Uber or Lyft for that area during Jazz Fest. Alternately, you can rent one of the blue bikes to get around before and after, especially if you plan on going downtown for after-shows. The City Park street car line also ends a few blocks away from the main entrance, but it is usually super packed. The street car will take you all the way back down to the foot of Canal Street if that's where you want to go for $1.25 each way, or you can transfer to the St. Charles street car if you are staying in the garden district or uptown for an extra $0.25.

Haven't been on ants in forever but this idea worked oh so many years ago and many groups of friends later....

I got a hotel with two beds at la Quinta. Tickets for Friday and Saturday. Looking to share that room with someone or people. Trying to save some pennies.

    Pm me.
