A Dream So Real

As much as I want an album of previously unreleased goodies, I just can't see it happening. But slipping in one or two isn't out of the question IMO.

A Dream So Real fits in so well with what we have to work with so far.. Listening to Virginia and High Seas along with ADSR feels cohesive to me.

Also, Tim is great here. Simple but awesome

Just thought I'd try to drum up something around here besides Spirit Animals

Yea its def better than High Seas and Be Yourself, but I think this album has enough slow, low energy songs on it. I think this would have fit in perfectly with AFTW. Put this in instead of Belly Full or Sweet!!

I was front row that night, I love the song but adding A Dream So Real to an album with two other slow piano songs just wouldn't work, unless they were to come out with an incredibly long album.

it bores the crowd to tears.

only time i heard it was izod 07, and my mom was with me for her first concert. she was familiar with a bunch of songs, but they played plenty that night that she didn't know. she knew nothing of ADSR before it started and i didn't say anything to her about it until after the song ended. when the song ended, my mom turned to me and asked if people were clapping because it was finally over. shes been to like a dozen shows since, but even a new fan questioned why they would play a song like that live.

Love this song. It always makes me think of Roi when I hear it. I love those subtle lines he played on that song. I just wish they didn't ditch his solo in the 2008 version.

No offense, but I just don't get this argument. No one complains when I'll Back You Up, Christmas Song, Lover Lay Down, #34, Pay For What You Get, Cry Freedom, Let You Down (recently liberated), Proudest Monkey (which is 3 notes over and over) or Busted Stuff gets played. All mellow tunes, but no one has a problem with them. I'll Back You Up gets so much praise, yet it's even mellower than A Dream So Real.

It's an 'argument' people make for when they just don't like the song. It's something easy to attack. Personally there are very few songs that I could ever find "boring", considering music is a form of expression.

its about melody and dynamics. some songs are more pleasing to listen to than others, even if they are more mellow. in most of the songs you mentioned, the music actually goes somewhere. nobody plays anything inspiring in ADSR. the music sounds like something you listen to to try to fall asleep. also, the lyrics to pretty much every one of those songs you mentioned is better than ADSR.

Agree to disagree. I think the lyrics are good in "A Dream So Real" and I love the guitar solo/horn lines.

What was Dave thinking opening two consecutive shows with it?

I dig this song. Wished DMB would get more keyboard players as guests (add to that guitarists who never guested so far) so we'd get more stuff like this.

Agree 100%. ADSR has pretty solid lyrics, a tiny little jam spot for literally anyone in the band to take, and it's only 4 minutes long. I'd be incredibly happy to see it again. Saw the only version in 08 at SPAC and it def did not put the crowd to sleep

It's just a terrible song. It should never be played again. It's the only song that is more boring and endless feeling than If Only.

No one on this site will complain about most of those songs because we are the diehard group. Watch the crowd at a show when those songs pop up. Sitting, quiet, leaving for beer.

Personally I like the upbeat songs at a show and prefer them. I like the energy it brings. The two set deal has a great mellow beginning acoustic set where a lot of these songs fit well to bring the energy for the electric set.

Definitely a good little song. Wish it would make a comeback sometime soon. That SPAC version from '08 is my favorite of the few I've heard too.

I really like A Dream So Real. I guess I'm in the minority, but I'd love to hear it again. I really like the lyrics and enjoyed the way they opened at the Gorge. They played A Dream So Real and then went into their normal opener.

much like the dreamgirl opener from camden n2 2013, the show would have been better off if they just skipped it and opened with the 2nd song on the setlist
