My girlfriend and I have been together for most of the last 2.5 years, and I have no idea what to get her for V-day. All I have for her at this point is a pair of noise cancelling headphones, so clearly I need a lot of help and need it fast.

Seriously, flowers is where it's at for valentine's day. Don't get her red roses, cause that's like you didn't put any thought into it. Does she have a favorite type of flower? If so, get her that. If not, go with something that's nice but gives her the impression that you thought about it. Different flower, different colors, self-made bouquet, that sort of thing. Don't get her a teddy bear or those pre-made chocolate boxes, either, that's just gimicky and lame. Make her know that you thought about it personally. That's what it's all about.

I'm making dinner from scratch. The flowers are just a nice little Wednesday surprise. And besides, flowers are classic -- You can't go wrong with flowers, they're nice and pretty and it's just a little thing that goes a long way to remind the girl that you're thinking about her.

I agree, but depending on a flower delivery guy to get her flowers where I need them when I need them is just stupid. On Friday and Saturday she has class, her internship, and works 2 jobs.

I'm taking her out to dinner and a movie, and I sent her flowers already. It's our 3rd anniversary too but we both have no money so we're keeping it low key. If it's only Valentines Day she should be more than thrilled with the headphones and some flowers or something.

I got that covered, so I guess I'm good. We're at that weird place where we don't want to get engaged until she after she graduates, but I've spoiled the shit out of her to the point where there is no romantic gift left to get her.
