Re: official Our Lady Peace thread
Our Lady Peace's first four albums are awesome, and then they fired their guitarist and hired Bob Rock as a producer, and tried to put out two mainstream albums. Their first, Gravity, worked to an extent. Healthy in Paranoid Times did not.
They produced their latest album themselves and aren't on a major record label anymore. Their CD is available for listen as of yesterday on their website for Canadians (you can easily find a proxy to listen to it in the U.S. or wherever).
It's a decent CD. Better than I was expecting. Their first single off the album, All You Did Was Save My Life, SUCKS hardcore though and hurts the album pretty bad. But the rest of the 9 songs are pretty good if you ask me. Dreamland and The End Is Where We Begin are really poppy, but work, especially live. Escape Artist is my least favorite but people seem to like it. White Flags and Monkey Brains too. I like Monkey Brains a lot but I hate the lyrics in the chorus.
Never Get Over You, The End Is Where We Begin and Paper Moon (probably the best track on the album) are my favorite tracks on the album. They let their guitarist do his thing.
Overall it's not as good as their first 4 CDs, but is an enjoyable listen. A refreshing surprise for me.
All of this stuff is on YouTube as well.
