official Our Lady Peace thread

Searched and couldn't find anything on this band outside of "favorite 90's albums" threads. Who else here liked/likes them? Thoughts on the new album, Burn Burn?

Technically it doesn't come out until the 21st of this month, but conveniently enough I went on a download site and searched Our Lady Peace in search of some B-Sides, and there the new album was freshly uploaded today.

They're a solid band. Not sure how I feel about Burn, Burn yet....Definately a big change from Healthy in Paranoid Times.

Escape Artist is definately the stand out track for me thus far.

I've been listening to the entire album non-stop for like 6 hours now, and seem to enjoy the entire thing. From the very first listen, Never Get Over You is my favorite, and Monkey Brains is my least favorite.

They did a free concert in Buffalo on July 3rd, and they were excellent. I went in as an extremely casual fan, really just hoping for a few old tunes, and I was really surprised as to how great the new stuff was. I was a huge fan of their early stuff -- Clumsy & Happinness... But really lost track of them when they started doing stuff like Somewhere Out There and their other more poppy songs. The new songs really impressed me, and I plan on getting it at some point.

I really like OLP. My buddy is a huge fan and so I became a decently big one (he in turn got really into DMB with me). I still haven't gotten to see a show though because they are never here in TX.

Kitten- did you ever check out that YouTube of Julia I posted up? Great Live Piano Version.

I think the only album of their's I didn't enjoy was Healthy In Paranoid Times (2005). Basically everything else has very quality stuff.

Yes, I actually did twice, once when you posted it and again last night when searching for non-album versions and songs. It's not bad at all, but I prefer the studio cut.

Re: official Our Lady Peace thread

Our Lady Peace's first four albums are awesome, and then they fired their guitarist and hired Bob Rock as a producer, and tried to put out two mainstream albums. Their first, Gravity, worked to an extent. Healthy in Paranoid Times did not.

They produced their latest album themselves and aren't on a major record label anymore. Their CD is available for listen as of yesterday on their website for Canadians (you can easily find a proxy to listen to it in the U.S. or wherever).

It's a decent CD. Better than I was expecting. Their first single off the album, All You Did Was Save My Life, SUCKS hardcore though and hurts the album pretty bad. But the rest of the 9 songs are pretty good if you ask me. Dreamland and The End Is Where We Begin are really poppy, but work, especially live. Escape Artist is my least favorite but people seem to like it. White Flags and Monkey Brains too. I like Monkey Brains a lot but I hate the lyrics in the chorus.

Never Get Over You, The End Is Where We Begin and Paper Moon (probably the best track on the album) are my favorite tracks on the album. They let their guitarist do his thing.

Overall it's not as good as their first 4 CDs, but is an enjoyable listen. A refreshing surprise for me.

All of this stuff is on YouTube as well.

I was scared this album would be as bad as their previous one, so since it is nowhere near that level I might be kind of overrating it because of the pleasant surprise. However, it's still a pretty good record and should sit well with most OLP fans.

There's a deluxe version coming out that has two more songs on it as well FYI. One has a song called Time Bomb surprisingly enough, and the other is The Right Stuff. Probably won't be a fan of The Right Stuff. I have no idea what Time Bomb is like.

Probably when the CD comes out on the 21st.

The Right Stuff was cut from the main album at the last minute and replaced with The End Is Where We Begin.

    My rankings:

    Spiritual Machines
    Clumsy
    Happiness
    Healthy
    Naveed
    Gravity

Not sure where I'd put Burn Burn yet.

Angels/Losing/Sleep is my favorite track overall.

Actually you can preview the tracks here: http://music.barnesandnoble.com/Burn...7981377/?itm=4

Time Bomb is actually a song called Waiting For Something To Happen, which there are a few videos of on YouTube. Same with the Right Stuff. Not the greatest tracks in the world, but whatever, they're bonus.

It's extremely generic and bad. Don't get me wrong, Our Lady Peace isn't exactly a groundbreaking rock band. But Gravity is just terrible IMO.

Bring Back the Sun is the only worthwhile track on the whole album. Sounds like any other generic shit album out there.

Going from an album in Spiritual Machines to Gravity within a year is just a terrible transition. One great piece of work to a bland one. I guess if you look at it as a standalone album it's ok, but just such a step down lyrically and creatively from the rest of the albums alone.

    Fan here!
I'd love to see them live once. I've read they're really great. I dunno if they'll tour in Europe.

I seriously love the new album, and what an improvement.
Gravity was not like the worst thing out there, but it was not at the level of OLP's work.

They're going on a tour of Europe later this year, but it hasn't been scheduled yet. I forget their outline for the tour, but it was something like festivals, then U.S, then Canada, then Europe.

Last tour they have another guitarist, Joel Shearer, and he would play lead a lot and was fantastic. They're just a four piece now and the lead singer's voice doesn't seem great anymore, but whatever, they still sound good from the videos I see.

Too many ballads on Burn Burn.....Need to do more stuff like Paper Moon, Escape Artist,Refuge and Monkey Brains. Get back to the more experimental sound of Happiness and SM.

As of now, definately not as good as I was hoping for. Too many throwaway tracks that sound like they're aimed for the radio when this was supposed to be a more independent sounding album.
