and then steal some books and just peace out? wtf?
Sam has no way of knowing that meant anything, and they showed him in a frustrated state as to where his mind wasnt focused anyway.

And he left because the whole reason he went was really to find an answer about the WW's. The other maesters wont even listen to him and he knows he needs to do something quickly.

I dont like the idea of him just leaving though. Gonna be weird for him to just pop back up at castle black in no time after a 2 season trip to get there.

The thing that made no sense to me about Sam absconding with scrolls from the Citadel is that he appeared to just pick them at random, like "yep, this looks like the one that holds all the secrets to defeat the army of the dead."

There was one particular instance where he just grabbed the top scroll on a giant pile of scrolls. I get that accessing documents in certain, confidential portions of the library is likely to reveal more helpful information, but there was absolutely no rhyme or reason to picking that one scroll.

Eh, it appeared as though he knew what he was looking for, even if there's no way for us as viewers to really be able to discern that he was grabbing something intentionally. It's not like a rolled-up scroll would just have "Killing Wights 101" written on the side of it

yeah that definitely confused me. Im sure they meant to show it as he knew what he was looking for, but him just rummaging on the top shelf of scrolls and grabbing one looked weird.

I take no issue with him selecting the actual books that he did, but those of course had labels and titles. The reason he picked that scroll was completely indiscernible.

I'm being nitpicky though. I don't really take any issue with him leaving the Citadel because if this season has taught us anything, it's that it's time for action and not words. While he may not be much of a fighter, there's no point in wasting screen time on him if it revolves around him continually having to cut through red tape.

I'm sure he made some choice selections. Very convenient.

    Seriously.

I'm not as concerned about characters taking time to travel places, but considering the ways in which previous episodes/books took time to have deliberate, realistically slow journeys, this season has really sped things up in a way that's jarring.

Random, but I just was clicking through some listicle about GOT cast members, and the guy who plays the Night King also played Joe Chill in Batman Begins. Though that was pretty ironic

saw some chatter in here about Jon and him making dumb decisions (leaving Winterfell, now trying to go get a WW), and one of the guys on the ringer podcast mentioned that they think ultimately maybe Jon wants to die. Which I could definitely see that making sense.

Also, another random thing, but this YouTube channel has a ton of in-depth explanatory type videos which give a lot of good background history from the show and books:

    https://www.youtube.com/user/JaiWbio

Helps give context to a lot of the recent goings on and is just cool to dive into the backstory/history.

Just a warning to anyone that's planning on waiting until Sunday night...

I browse youtube fairly regularly and really dont even watch that much game of thrones stuff, but already tonight as I've been browsing I've seen videos that are essentially clips from the leaked episode. And the titles of these clips have already given away a couple things for me. Nothing major, but I guess this means I even have to avoid going on youtube until sunday now. Just wanted to let anyone else know so they dont stumble on it like myself

I'm only 5 or so episodes through my rewatch but man it was like a different show. I know it's been a pretty long time and everything about the show and the people who make it evolve. But characters just seem so different, filming and set design so different.

I love rewatching it now that I know, for the most part, about all the people and places they're referring to.

it's an awesome show to rewatch episodes here and there of, cause you can understand how well / poorly characters' decisions work out down the road

you also get scenes where there are four people talking and all four are dead by now

Further to this point, it's pretty crazy to think about how much Caitlyn Stark's decision to arrest Tyrion impacted the entire story going forward. Can tie back so many different ripples to that one decision, it's great storytelling by GRRM.
