West Coast Festival Confirmation from DANNY BARNES

So, I hung out with Danny Barnes last night at the goodfoot in Portland where he was doing a gig. He was just hangin' out upstairs eatin' and drinkin' (coffee) before the show. Our booth was right next to his and we started a convo with him. Talked about my love for Banjo and my love of him. Then, asked him if he would be joining DMB on their summer festival thing and he replied "The one out here, definitely. It's close to home. I like it out there." Asked if he knew any other bands and he said he knew of a BIG band from the Northwest area that will be there, "a celebration of sorts, they been around a while."

He would not give specifics of when, who or where, besides himself, but out here is GORGE and the BIG band from the Northwest is... PEARL JAM. Got it! Good.

Gorge has pretty much been confirmed for a while now.

Again I'll ask...how could the Gorge possibly accommodate two huge fan bases like DMB and PJ?

Danny Barnes is going to be at the Gorge? FUCK! I don't mind if he plays some banjo on DMB tunes but I don't want to see DMB acting as a backing band for that cocksucker.

What a tough spot to put fans in. They're going to have a DMB/PJ weekend at the Gorge but Danny Barnes will be there. I can't pass that up, can I?

well, the rumor floating around the PJ boards is that they are playing Alpine Valley Labor Day Weekend.......with people calling the resort for reservations about dates, ala ants calling Wildhorse and local places around the Gorge.

Here's a thought....


Pearl Jam doesn't exactly have the most elaborate stage setup. Pretty basic actually. Who's to say they don't do the Gorge on Friday night and fly to Alpine for Sat and Sun. Or Alpine Friday and Saturday and the Gorge on Sunday.


If those Danny Barnes comments are legit (and you'd think he'd know), then is it really that far-fetched?

Meant to add that they have two stage setups. One would already by set up at Alpine.

Perhaps its not DMB and Pearl Jam all 3 nights, DMB plays all 3 nights but there is another huge headliner each night.

Sure its a little silly to think this would happen but not totally out of the question, especially with all the insane rumors that have been thrown around. Its certainly possible to get all 3 of the these artists for one night each.

Well let's hope if it's true it's only for one night. If that's the case I don't see their fans making a pilgrimage to a place like the Gorge for 1 show. Way too much work for that.


By the way, I love PJ. It would be my second DMB/PJ weekend (Austin City Limits) and it would be incredible. I'm just worried about the ticket situation if this is true.

I definitely believe it's possible. If I could see PJ/DMB/Phish one weekend at the Gorge.... that would be one hell of a way to finish the summer
