Doesn’t that last chorus section also repeat multiple times? I always thought it felt like it was repeated unnessarily at the end like stay…. If that’s the case I’m on board with that idea.

Any studio cuts come to mind that would be *better* if they had been shortened?

Only one I feel strongly about is Drunken Soldier. It's solid 5 minute song with a lot of window dressing to get to 9:45.

If I'm being objective about Can't Stop, that should be about 30 seconds shorter or so. It feels like it has a natural ending but just keeps going.

And Louisiana Bayou has the jam at the end but on the album it just goes nowhere and has worn out its welcome by about 4 minutes or so.

Still, even if some of these songs could be strengthened by being shorter, we're still talking about 4-5 minute songs. Not sure I can think of any that should be 2:47.

Totally. WIA feels like a really short song to me and it’s 4 minutes long. All we can hope is that if some of these super short songs are good, they get the Smooth Rider treatment live

Yet somehow this simple fact is consistently missed during the ongoing discussion about the topic.

Crazy difference between under three minutes and just around 4 minutes. And that's not even harkening back for the band from the 90s, it's the vast majority of songs post Busted Stuff.

Slightly related, and this is more just for discussion, Drunken Solider could have been a good 8 or 9 minute song, but it needed a Bartender style outro post the main song, not what it got, which is just boring.

I love Drunken Solider, but I do find the outro disappointing. Could’ve used some layered solos building throughout, kinda like Snow Outside.

Something clicked with The Only Thing tonight. Can’t explain it. Before the song put me to sleep.

So the band artistically wanted an album with short songs this time. So what.

If that’s all it is, is a “this time” type of thing I’m cool with it. I just worry it’ll be a pattern of Dave trying to appeal to the Sean Mendez crowds.
