This song finally grabbed me today...and..., just wow.

Snow Outside and Drunken Soldier are easily the two best songs they've released since BTCS.

Add "broken things" to this list and I'm right there with you brother!

Agreed, and agreed with the person who said to include "Broken Things" in that statement.

But I also think LITHOG, WIA, and Spaceman stand tall next to them.

My favorite by a long shot. I usually don't say I can't wait to hear a song live, but in this case, I really can't wait to hear it live. But what I really can't wait for is to hear it live after they've been playing it for a few years.

As for the Snow Outside lovers, it has not grabbed me yet. I like it okay, but everyone seems to love it. Because it's so popular here, I'm waiting for the moment when it clicks. Though Squirm never clicked for me and all yalls loved that one.

I back read a little ways and saw some mention but no clear response as to who is saying what int he DS intro. I know Carter is talking about something while Dave Jams away and then does some scatting, but does anyone know exactly what is said by who?

It's Carter talking about his cymbals I think, telling Steve there might be something wrong with them, but then later says they are fine...and then yes, Dave starts doing his scat thing.

This is probably definitely already been mentioned, BUT IF NOT, isn't it interesting that "Don't let any fools make your something your not" is on the lyric card itself? Those were the lyrics on the Sirius broadcast a while back but not the official, so I wonder if that is intentional or a slight mistake.

there were some changes made very late in the process. that was probably one of them. the lyric cards were probably already finished and in production when this took place.

Same here, seriously, this song is so good. I almost feel like this is Dave writing back in time to a younger version of himself.

I pretty much agree with you completely. While I like Snow Outside, I don't seem to love it as much as the next guy. One of their best tracks on the album but, personally, I think Drunken Soldier blows it away.

I also agree with you on Squirm. Not bad by any stretch but it's not in my top 5 from BW.

Then again I love Time Bomb so what do I know?

Sorry about topping my own thread but...

I can't get over how incredible this song is. I don't think theres been a time when I've listened to it only once since AFTW came out (and probably a minimum of at least 3 times consecutively).

And this just hit me the other day: after 20+ years together its truly remarkable that this Band can create music as good as this. Seriously. We know DMB is capable of great music but when you step back and look at other band's that have been around for 20+ years how many have been able to come up with something this good?

I love Drunken Soldier. My favorite song on the album. But, I am a bigger Pink Floyd fan than a DMB fan (notice my screen name), and I have to say that Roger Waters would never put "stepping out" in his lyrics.

Drunken Soldier, LITERALLY says make the most of what you've got. It's a different level of creativity in the old(er) days, even if the general message is the same.
Dave's carpe diem songs (YKN, Pig, LIOG, Billies) are always better when it's implied that death is lurking out there, so you'd better make use of the moment. Now. The moment he tells you what to literally do--"don't waste time trying to be something you're not," "PLEASE WAKE UP," "we've got to do much more than believe...," he gets a little preachy/cheesy.

The poster above is right, but I'd call it metaphors instead of image. "don't lost the dreams inside your head" is pretty literal, but "don't burn the day," "sitting on top of the world with your legs hanging free," and "spinning on the wind, a leaf fell from a limb" are all figurative moves. Dave seems to opt more for the literal these days.

All that said, I love DS. I wish the whole album had been this brave.

Searched the thread and didn't see this, but I know someone has it!

Does anyone know what Dave says during the outro? The lines I can make out are "Windows, doors...must've got out sometime during the night...leave something outside for 'em." Anyone have anything more/different?

Also, at the 9:13 mark, Dave speaks a line, then sings it at the 9:23 mark - any idea what he's saying?

Very nice screen name, Floyd will always be my favorite.. With DMB a close second.

The whole crowd should sing "that's not a star, that's a satellite" during the outro. Somewhat like what the crowd does during Everyday.
