Can't decide what's worse. The Riff or Rooftop.

If I wanted to hear music like this I would listen to Bon Jovi.

Probably not something I would call myself anymore. At this point I dislike about half their catalog.

But seriously, doesn't Rooftop sound a lot like Bon Jovi's "Dead or Alive"?

Why? Because it's prominently electric guitar?

    Not even close.

Nope, the band that immediately comes to mind that the song reminds me of are The Black Crows.

Yep. Every song with electric guitar = "Dead or Alive"

I just think the choruses are similar. Sorry if you guys don't like my opinion, but that's all it is.

Yeah this is completely FUCKING horrible!!!!!!!! It ruins the whole song. It's like a submarine. It's a massive turn off for me. It's even worse on the album! Other then this its my new favourite song.

Guys, I take it back. I thought we were talking about Rooftop (which I do think sounds like Bon Jovi). The Riff is a shitty song, but I don't think it sounds like Bon Jovi.

Literally not even close, like not even close. The Riff is acoustically driven until the outro, and that is a sonic fact. If Carter dominating his kit makes you feel like you're listening to Bon Jovi, I'm sorry, because he's the one who plays the most heavy handed on the track...and it's awesome.

Here's the problem with your opinion...Rooftops chorus and Dead or Alive's don't sound similar...at all. You actually have a closer comparison with The Riff since I'm correcting myself in that Dead or Alive is actually far more acoustically driven than I thought.

One of my favorites on the album. The music is fantastic and so are the lyrics. I love how it sounds like a classic rock song but also sounds like DMB at the same time.

I used to love DMB. I wish I could love their new stuff, but I don't. That doesn't mean I don't want to discuss their music. After hearing the album, I was interested to see what the majority of the fanbase thought. Seems like a lot of people are into the new stuff, which is cool. It's just not for me.

So at first you said "Dead or Alive" was more electric and that was a 'sonic fact' but then you back tracked, but I'm the one who doesn't know anything about music?

If I cared enough, I could go look at your previous posts and make fun of the music you like but there's really no need to do something like that. You're quite a bit younger than me, so I really can't blame you for sounding desperately immature. I'm glad you're enjoying the new album though.

It's definitely complex, and by that I don't necessarily mean heavily layered and full.
I can't seem to figure it out. The mood is so ... in between. I cant explain it very well. I do like the song though. Definitely not my favorite on the album, but I like it.

Don't argue semantics in place of a real point. Backtracking is a bit different than correcting myself...I admitted I made an error and corrected it. And regardless of my mistake, The Riff and Dead or Alive still don't sound alike.

And that still doesn't change the fact that Rooftop and Dead or Alive don't sound melodically alike at all.

there is a very nervous anxiousness in this song. it starts with the first time dave sings "please don't leave me baby, please don't leave me here." you can just hear the uneasiness in his voice. and then as the song builds, there are times where it just drops back down only to build back up even more, and then drop down again. the entire song has this queasy feeling, like when your bf/gf says "i need to talk to you" and your stomache just drops.

Honestly, I think this song would be getting alot more love if it hadn't been heard before the studio track (ala broken things, snow outside, etc). This really is an incredible track, I love the emotion in it.
