Sometimes the level of DMB authority people seem to feel they have around here is just astounding.
I can't imagine spending your time on this forum complaining about people who complain. That's almost the only post you ever make. 'Why are you guys still complaining? Why are you still going on about setlists? Things won't change'.

Do you realize this is a place where people vent/complain about crap they are unhappy with? I've told you this months ago, but seriously join DMB FAM.. you'll be happier over there. We are tired of hearing you complain about our complaining.

Thank you for sharing this and the link to exactly what you're referring to. I agree 100%. I've heard that same misplaced, flat trumpet solo a hundred times. It kills any momentum in the song every time.
I just re-watched the video and it's hilarious. Anyone who thinks he sounds good in that clip is in big time denial.

Brass sections are fantastic. Ants w/ pres hall was a good example of how both buddy and a brass section worth their salt could massively improve this bands reputation

Not calling him spectacular, tremendous or outstanding
The 9:25 mark of that DT when Dave hits the note over RR is pure sex.

Did anyone see Jeffs response last night on Instagram with him and Rashawn practicing those high pitch notes. a guy commented "The one thing Rashawn doesn't need to practice is squeaking. Good grief can he not ruin another Leroi tune with that nonsense."
Jeff Responds "Then leave this shit on the boards!!!

They definitely read this site lol

Yes I hope the band realizes these boards represent less than 1% of the fanbase. Especially in the last 5 years.

I imagine several people in this thread listening to Rashawn and Jeff play a smoking Sun Ra/Ornette Coleman inspired intro on Seek Up and going "Ugh, what is that awful racket those two are up to." then popping in their Breathless CD and going "see, thats what I'm talking about. Jazzy.".

Its so cute that you worry about what the band may or may not read on a 1990s style message board. No wonder so many posters here are afraid to admit the truth or get hyper-defensive.

Seems like you're the defensive one. Personally I just appreciate and respect career artists as well as people's opinions. Personal attacks reveal a lot about the attacker and defending the attacks with the argument that the abused is rich and famous so it shouldn't bother them is a cowardly response.

I disagree with this sentiment. Many professionals, especially artists suffer from imposter syndrome and take anonymous opinions to heart. We don't know what's in Rashawns head. As a fan with my own opinions that are not all positive about the band I would hate to be responsible for even a sliver of self doubt directed towards someone with the guts to create art as a profession. Opinions and respectful critiques are fine, but personal attacks are very off putting for me.

Good call. There's a lot of hatred being thrown around this thread. Even the "we heard you the first time" comment. Like dude, do you seriously think this was the first time someone posted about Rashawn and their dislike of him? No, we heard you the first time as well. Rashawn is a great player. I don't love everything he does, but then again I don't love EVERYTHING that ANYONE in the band does. They all make mistakes or make interesting stylistic choices I wouldn't have done personally. No need to make a whole thread to bitch and complain about it.

    . Seriously?

The dude who said that shows up to give his praise to Rashawn about 4 posts into the thread.

The rest of us continue the discussion (sometimes bashing, but other times breaking down what we don't like and do like about Rashawn), and then he shows up to say the same exact comment only this time asking why this thread still exists.

Pointing out that we heard him the first time while we are having an actual discussion about Rashawn is hatred? Unbelievable.

By the way, using your logic, all threads should be shut down. At this point, nearly every topic has been discussed. Should they never resurface? Are we only allowed to discuss each topic once? Hilarious

One of the things I remember hearing Rashawn say about what LeRoi taught him is to not be afraid to go out on a limb and take risks with the music. Not everything will work all the time. But I find the vast majority of what I hear from him really enjoyable, and I'm very grateful he is part of this lineup. I even had the pleasure of hearing him play with Dave & Tim in Vegas in 2010, which felt really special. To each their own, not hating on anyone who feels differently. Just glad I personally find value in his addition to this band and music I love.

I heard him say this at a class him and Jeff were putting on a couple years ago. Good or bad, I love hearing artists take risks.

‘Taking risks’. I’m out. Squealing the trumpet for ten years straight isn’t taking risks. Would be great if Rashawn focused on feeling the music instead and practicing carrying a solo from start to finish instead of randomly blaring the trumpet after the first five notes of every ‘solo’.

I mean, Starbucks is still in business and they serve burnt coffee. There’s always someone who likes bad quality ______ fill in the blank.

I will say one thing, I’ll be a little more mindful when criticizing because I also don’t want to get in someone’s head. As much as I never want to hear Rashawn play the trumpet in DMB again, I wouldn’t say any of this to him in person so I probably shouldn’t say it here. This is probably something that 90% of us on this forum should work on .
