WH Pit Ticket Above Face Value on Secondary Market

A friend of mine purchased a pit ticket for well above face value on the secondary market. (He was a late addition to our group, and everyone else already had tickets. He was desperate to get into the pit with us.) His ticket arrived in the mail yesterday, and he just told me that it's a Warehouse ticket...

I know WH members aren't allowed to sell their tickets for above face, but does the WH actually take any action on these cases? Is it worth reporting to the WH? I don't want to risk the WH cancelling the ticket! What info from the ticket needs to be reported to the WH? Just wondering if anything can/should be done in this situation to punish the scalping WH member. Thoughts?

Personally, I think it would be a dick move to report someone in this situation. Your friend reaped the reward of being able to get a pit ticket to sit with you that he otherwise wouldn’t have been able to get (albeit for a higher price), and now you want to turn around and report the seller. My take is you can’t have it both ways. Either take the attitude of I’m not buying scalped tickets and I’ll report anyone I find doing it, or realize that hey, it happens, and we (your friend in this case) bought it for a higher price, and that might suck, but you still benefitted from it.

He purchased the ticket so he was aiding and abetting to the horrendous, unthinkable crime

Yeah, I can definitely see it from this point of view. Makes sense. Thanks for the input!

agree … relax and enjoy the show. Besides, I’ve heard that much of the time the Warehouse doesn’t even do anything.

Regardless of any rules or regulations, the secondary market (for concert tickets such as these) will always be more expensive. Thankfully in our society, supply and demand make these determinations. We are blessed for that.

While i do not agree with selling tickets above face, i certinally have paid for them when I was younger. To me, a ticket is worth whatever you are willing to pay for it. So if it is a premium seat / section and they are hard to come by, then if you can afford it by all means. If that show will give you that once in a lifetime experience, it is worth whatever you are willing to pay for it. Kind of like designer clothes. Just cause a shirt is slapped with a Versace logo is it worth 500? Hell no but if you want it, you will buy it

Just gonna leave this here for the OP:

    RESALE OF TICKETS

You may not resell Warehouse tickets for more than their purchase price. If anyone is found to be reselling, trading or brokering tickets that they purchased through the Warehouse on third-party websites, the Warehouse may, at its discretion:

    1. Forfeit Member's membership and membership fee;

    and/or

    2. Cancel Member's ticket order and all other pending orders without refund. See Terms of Tickets.

The Warehouse also reserves the right to cancel the membership of any member found to be reselling Dave Matthews Band Warehouse tickets for more than their face value, regardless of whether they were purchased through the Warehouse or through a secondary source.

The Warehouse recommends reselling Warehouse tickets to fellow Warehouse members via the Warehouse BOARDS Ticket forum. All sales are to be no more than FACE VALUE, plus Warehouse fees.

We urge you not to resell nor purchase tickets through brokers or third-party sellers. These tickets can be counterfeit in which case you are not only overcharged but the ticket may not allow admission into the event. Please note that the Warehouse is in no way liable for tickets purchased from brokers or third-party sellers.

Yeah, you're right. I'm just going to let it lie. I was crawling out of my skin hearing what he paid for the ticket in the first place. Then when I found out the ticket that he got was a WH ticket, it just made my blood boil even more. But you're right - he chose to pay it, he has to live with it. And I suppose it isn't really my business where he sourced his ticket from...

was it for SPAC? I bet it was for SPAC.

I bought a Pit on the secondary market back in 2010 for N2. In hindsight, kinda wish I had just grabbed a single balcony for face off the boards and thrown the remainder into my 401k or something

Perhaps wait until after the show to report it. The Warehouse is liable to cancel the ticket if reported before, but perhaps they wouldn't do that to the person who paid for and now possesses the ticket.

So wait in an era where the only hard tickets are Warehouse Tickets for DMB shows (outside some rare exceptions) you want someone who paid over face value for a pit ticket to go to the show enjoy the show then report the person that paid over face value?

Maybe it was a Premium Pit ticket?

In any case, reporting seems like the wrong course of action here - your friend bought it knowing it was above face value - that it came from WH instead of LN/TM is kinda irrelevant to me. Would be a separate issue if he didn't make the purchase and reported the listing. But it's supply and demand.

separate issue here but IMO a ticket to a show is a ticket to a show; the original purchaser made the decision to buy all the stuff that comes with a premium package and if they aren't passing the stuff along they shouldn't pass along the cost either (assuming, of course, that they are trying to adhere to the face-value-only suggestion. if they aren't, have at it, I don't care).

    that's just me though.

Question- if you buy a WH pit over face (and received them in the mail), what is to stop the seller from contacting WH and saying they lost their tickets? Wouldn't that void your ticket and give them another set for themselves? You wouldn't know until you get to the show and it won't scan.

    that's just me though.
While I treat premiums exactly as you're describing I think it's at least a grey area. I'd guess close to zero people are paying for premiums to get the two show posters and tchotchkes, they are paying to be in the pit or center lowers. Premiums are about 350 a piece, so 115-125 for the ticket, 60 for the poster, which leaves about 165-175 bucks for a water bottle or blanket, lol.

While I would personally always pass along the merch I don't see it as a complete deal breaker to just sell the ticket for the amount printed on the face. If anything just back the 60 bucks out for the print, at least it has some value at resale after the show.
