I hate Roddick. He plays like garbage but is consistently top 10. All he has is a hard serve. That doesn't win Grand Slams.

Karlovic is serving huge, so Federer has to be a bit concerned. I only saw the 5th set of Murray/Wawrinka, but that looked like a good match. Ferrero has to be the surprise quarterfinalist--the WC paid off for him.

When was the last time someone won their own country's grand slam tournament (men's tennis)?

Roddick winning the US Open is the last one I can remember.

It would have been Roddick at the US in 2003. 20 of the 23 slams since have been either Fed or Rafa.

The question is still extremely premature, though...

    Random Musings:
    - Roddick is a complete ass...but I still root for him. Guess it's the Patriot in me.
    - So far, I have found the early rounds of the French Open more exciting than Wimbledon. I think I like the slower surface more as there seems to be more strategy.
    - Murray sure looked beatable today. I think with the crowd behind him, he could take down Federer, but his serve needs to be a lot stronger than it was today.
    - The Williams Sisters are pretty incredible athletes. Amazing that they are still able to dominate 10 years after they began dominating.

Noah won in Paris in the early 80s, maybe '83. I think an Australian won in the 70s. And Wimbledon was Perry way back in the day.

-last British player to win Wimbledon was Fred Perry, in 1936. That crowd would go absolutely nuts if Murray wins this thing...but I can't see it happening, not quite yet.

-had no idea the Williams sisters still hadn't cracked 30 yet...guess that's what happens when you start so young

-Roddick/Hewitt should be electric...I know both of them are huge pricks, but obviously I want Roddick to keep winning

Why's everyone saying Roddick is such a huge douche? I know he has his moments, but he seems like a decent guy.

I've met him once and been in the same bar as him once too...he's a dick and a douche.

I'm glad that one meeting, in a bar, allows you to judge his overall character.

conveniently left out the in person meeting...I think that's easily enough evidence.

Care to explain how he was a dick and douche?

What, he wouldn't sign an autograph for you?

I love how you are getting so worked up about this.

Anyway, I used to work at the tennis tournament in Indy each summer. He was very, very short with all the fans after his practice sessions. He sighed and had a pissed off look each time a fan would come up and ask to get a picture (I can understand this if it was like the 100th person, but he was doing this for the first and second people).

I also saw him at a bar with three sleazy looking girls that same week (that's not necessarily the problem), but he was being really obnoxious, and again....short with anybody that would attempt to talk to him. If he doesn't want to be bothered by fans, noooooo problem and totally understandable. But he shouldn't go out to a popular bar in downtown Indy and not expect people to want to talk to him.

    Any more questions?

I know a whole bunch of people who have either worked with Roddick (advertising campaigns), watched him play dozens of times or met him causually.
80% of the meetings have been negative. He's a primadonna who never really grew up from being the slimy frat boy type.

Many of the encounters were several years ago or more, so maybe he has grown up a bit since...although considering he happily flaunts that he met his wife by stalking her after seeing her picture in the SI Swimsuit Edition, I'm not so sure.

Anyway....I don't much care about personalities off the court...on the court, he still whines way too much.

Unlike Roddick, I've heard virtually nothing but great things about Nadal off the court and in his dealing with fans and his star status. Even more positive comments about Nadal than Federer, who tends to be more reserved and business like off court.

My encounter was 3 summers ago, for the record.

Everytime he's come into the restaurant I work in, he's been condescending and rude to the entire staff. He acts as if we should have announces his arrival with a round of trumpets and rolled out a red carpet.

Personally, I think the way someone treats a server says a ton about their character.

I'm pulling for Andy Murray to win. All the matches tomorrow should be good. Karlovic-Federer could be interesting.

    Karlovic's serving stats are absurd.

Murray is too grumpy for me to root for...although he is less painful to watch during wimbledon. The crowd being fully behind him is certainly helping his on court attitude.

Similiar to golf with Tiger, I root for domination so I'm hoping Federer wins as we are watching something truly historic. Typically, I root for the underdog...but 21 straight semi-finals of majors is quite possibly the most underrated sports achievement in history, let alone the number of major wins.

I'm with you. I like to see the great ones pile it on.

Wish I wasn't working today so I could watch the quarters. They should be good matches. I'd like to see Roddick lose & Ferrero win, but I don't think it's going to happen.

The thing at the tennis tournament is sort of not cool, but I don't blame him for not wanting to be bothered at a bar. It'd be pretty annoying to be approached by some douche in a bar every five minutes wanting to talk to you just because you play tennis for a living.

Listening to Roddick/Hewitt on radio through wimbledon.org.

The Brittish announcers are ripping Roddick to shreads. They are blatantly pulling for Hewitt. Saying Roddick doesn't try half of his matches, loses concentration, phones it in when he is playing better top ranked opponents, etc. etc. etc. Just non stop. Kinda amusing in how much these guys hate Roddick.

"No question Murray would prefer to play Roddick"
"He fell to the ground like a horse having a nap"

    These guys are brutal.

If he had a more likeable demeanor and wasn't such a whiny bitch, I'd root for him even if he lost every important match of his life (which he does anyway). But I take a lot of pleasure in watching Roddick choke. It seems he finds everything and everyone to blame but himself. If he represents this country in that fashion then I don't want him winning another major.

    Great 5th set so far.

Hewitt hasn't been able to touch Roddick's serve and has been getting pushed to the brink on his service. I think eventually Roddick will break him and win.
