That’s a good one… I think the Across the Pond DVD has an awesome Two Step solo.. As amazing as Carter is.. he peaked later than the band… 09 was an incredible year for him.. big whiskey let him open up much more than he was used to .

i dont have anything in mind at the moment, but i tend to think carter is better when soloing to a melody than just on his own. say goodbye intros, where he is following the feel of say goodbye, can be fantastic and more intricate than most two step solos where he tends to just smash the snare and kick pedals.

Well, if you read the YouTube comments on the first video posted here, many people say that he is not smashing the snare and kicking the pedals, but is making music, in a very clean way

He plays music more than he plays drums...Really fits and fills out the music. It's all so clean and well controlled! I love it!

For me, he's the perfect mix of flashiness and fundamentals.

It would take every ounce of my skill to play one-third that well.

It is more than drumming: music! Or - before I,ll be killed by drummers - very musical drumming!

I love how his playing is clean, and not all blended together, it sounds just so awesome, he plays calm and simple, but it sounds AWESOME!!!!!!

I went over and over on those Two Step solos, and i agree that he is doing everything but noise. Every beat has a sense, instead.

Nice! Everything about that 6.3 is incredible with the exception of a few sketchy Boyd parts. Top notch versions of even the staples like OSW, Rapunzel, Pig, Graves especially, and two step.

Dannyyankou is a DMB professor, I deeply respect what he says and I don't want to question him...but..
Citi Field Two Step for me falls far behind in my Two Step list: ok, Carter is excellent when Tim is making his solo, and Carter's solo is excellent.
What I've never really understood are the last 2 minutes of this version. They set-up an hard-rock outro, with the screaming, the guitar distortion, the double end, and all of that shit. Like they've seen a Scorpions concert right before going on stage.

Carter solos by themselves, especially the latest Two Steps, are some of the least creative things Carter does. It's just fast snare and double bass, with cymbal crossovers to end it.

His most amazing work is the "solos" while the band is playing Ala Loving Wings.

Say Goodbye intros are usually great as well.

Going a little off topic, but since we have Adam that can answer:
I’ve always thought that 2SETS 2014 was the first time Carter played hand percussions.
But today I’ve listened Don’t Burn the Pig from Warehouse 10 Vol. 4 (8.31.96, Bristow), and Carter seems to play percussions. Don’t have a video of it, so I am not sure, but do you have track of other songs where Carter is playing percussions?

The 2sets thing other than maybe a few shows here and there, was the first time I remember an acoustic set like that at a show. I could be wrong though.

He ended up basically playing that acoustic set like the kit toward the end of it, and especially in 15.
