COVID-19/new coronavirus thread

I don't think we had a set thread for this.

How is everyone doing? How are you impacted by work, social life, vacations, etc.?

It's starting to affect the area here in South Jersey.

Friday my job suggested we work remotely. Now they are saying we have to work remotely unless we get manager approval to come in.

It works out for our family though because the kids don’t have school. My wife works in the medical field so she still has to go in.

I wish our work was being this proactive.

Though I live in a red state and thus far it isn't taking this seriously at all.

All of NYC nightlife is officially shut down starting tomorrow, though most is already.

If the city doesn't subsidize and/or waive rent and we aren't open Fri/Sat for more than a month, we're fucked and will probably cease to exist. And guaranteed we have more of a war chest than most other clubs/bars/etc in NYC because we've got a couple other clubs in Poland (that are also shut down). So there will be an obscene amount of small businesses going under. It's actually kinda scary to think about. I doubt most places here can last 2 weeks without Saturday night money coming in.

So if this 8 week rumor is true, I'll need a job if anyone's got any leads...

They made sure all us editors at my paper could work from home. I have a laptop that I can just hook up to a monitor if I have to build pages from home. Gonna be really interesting if we are forced to work from home. One of the copy editors volunteered to work from home today to experiment with it.

NJ just announced a statewide curfew after 8 p.m. All casinos are closed as are restaurants, bars, and places where more than 50 people gather.

No word yet from my work on working remote or not. I have Mondays off (4 day work week) but people are at the office today.

Our wedding is supposed to take place on April 24th. We're having ~50 people, all from out of town. We'd lose a ton of money rescheduling or cancelling.

Ours has done none of that. The point about my employer was separate from what our state is doing, but my work would be more inclined to act if there was state guidance.

Pretty much the same thing here. I’m not 100% sure how this ends but I can’t imagine it ending well for small businesses.

Hope you’re okay from the employment/financial angle. I guess it’s safety first and worry about the rest later. (Not arguing with that logic but it’s still stressful for a lot of folks out there, financially speaking.)

    Ah. I see.

I can’t say what your company would do but IL has closed a lot of places and my employer still has us coming into work (as of now).

Definitely not ideal and will be literally zero non-essential spending for a while, that's for sure. It won't ruin us but we're gonna feel the re-budgeting.

My wife makes good money and will probably have to work overtime because her hospital is mayhem right now so that can help, and while my day job is fucked we don't have to pay for child care now so that saves quite a bit.

Massively impacted at work. I'm in healthcare/EMS so we've been putting in focused contingency planning efforts since mid-Jan. Still havent hit any of our trigger points for changing anything. Doing lots of social distancing, reminders with crews about PPE and how to screen patients. We've been here before.

Still going into work, but we’ve definitely taken a hit in business. It’s been slow for about the past month, but it’s really taking a turn for the worst. On my Monday/Thursday route, I usually have about 12-15 dry cleaning bags I pick up from customers. Today, I had 2 bags. I don’t know what happens if there is a complete shutdown, and if we can survive that.

Stopped in the office this morning and grabbed everything I needed. Working from home until at least April 6th.

Trump's Administration revised advisory: Avoid gatherings of 10 or more people.

I'm remote for the foreseeable future starting tomorrow. Maryland has been effectively shut down after 5pm per Hogan. Lots and lots of neighborhood bars and restaurants around aren't going to live. I continue to feel a large portion of this could have been avoided.

Live free or die here in NH...so it's looking like I'll see most of you on the other side...
Outside of shutting down the schools our Governor has done little to curb the spread. My younger brother works part time at a local Irish pub that is one of the more popular pubs in town. Tomorrow is St. Patrick's Day which is obviously their biggest money making day of the year. The owner is keeping them open and MAY restructure after that. Needless to say, my brother who has a pregnant wife at home is beyond irritated with that. Feels like they should shut down now since they may anyway. That said, the Governor announced they are NOT shutting down restaurants and bars. But drive ten minutes south over the border and everything will be limited to 25 people or less, or closed entirely. And where might those folks in MA head with everything closed when you can go right over the border?

I work for a printing company that has a lettershop production floor. They just said there's no way we close the lettershop. That's our whole business. I'm on the office side of things with work from home abilities, but we aren't structured for it. I have no laptop. No access to our server. No programs that I would need at home. And they don't seem to be taking any steps to head in that direction. So unless shit gets really nuts up this way, it's looking like business as usual in the Granite State.

Wife and I are both mandatory work from home and get to share the house with two beautiful kids under the age of 2. Wife is a teacher, so we feel good that she has a job on the other side of this. Not sure how I have a job in a few weeks without a miracle.

I’ve been having panic attacks for almost 2 weeks now. Had another one this morning out of nowhere. I’m the most chill optimistic person I know, so this is a full 180 for me. Worried about how my wife holds up if this is the new me.

    Good times.

On a positive. We just moved back to NH from Providence, RI and I have been a part of the music scene down there the last couple years. A lot of my friends are hurting because they can't play any shows. I've mentioned this in the Prompter thread, but Providence revoked all entertainment licenses to aid in curbing any further draw to bars and music venues. So Saturday I woke up with a fun idea. Live stream music festival. In one day we rallied together 10 bands and artists I know from RI, NH and even one from OH. We put a schedule together, created an event page and we sent out invites. Each band and artist posted a link to their live stream to the event page and we monitored the schedule and posted as each stream went live. We started yesterday at 2 and ended at 11 and it was really successful throughout the community. One of the guys that helped me put it on tracked our social media stats and it showed we reached over 3500 people. It ended up being a blast and a really fun way to get live music to people in the comfort of their own homes. Not a novel idea, but it worked, people loved it, and it gave people some fun and happiness in an otherwise uncertain time. I've been playing music for nearly 30 years, and this was one of the most incredible things I've ever put on or been a part of.

It's possible. People can come together and do cool stuff if you try.

Serious theory I want to throw out there:

Suicide is a top 10 cause for deaths in america every year. Locking everything down significantly negatively impacting peoples lives & social lives, how big of an impact does this quarantine have for those that are highly at risk for depression/suicide

It should be a serious concern. I still think quarantine/isolation is the best course of action, but you're not wrong.

I was talking to a friend last night; I know it's going to have a detrimental affect on my mental health. Nowhere near suicidal, but if I have no routine/work/reason to get up it's bad. I try to work 6-7 days a week because of it.

Talked to my doc today, I'm still quarantined. Test results should be available tomorrow, maybe? My coworkers who were tested Wednesday didn't have their results back yet as of last night, so I'm betting sometime at the end of the week. One missed paycheck I can handle, if we get to two I'll have to dip into savings, which I don't wanna do.
