Re: **Official** Dave & Tim Mexico 2020
A week in the rear view mirror and a couple thoughts on the weekend.
First, this was a solid choice to move the venue. The Moon Palace is a step up in the resort quality from the previous Riveria Maya spot hosting D&T. Better than average food, restaurant options and the room — all significant upgrades.
And the shows — overall. Really enjoyed the whole experience. I’ve been to more than a dozen D&T shows. By no means the most out here, but more than my first experience. I think any fan typically loves it...so, how should you distinguish shows after having said “I love them all!” In in this case, these shows were my favorite complete D&T weekend shows. For me, they had everything. The atmosphere and experience was great. That does start with the venue...but beyond the stay, the concert venue was just cool. The ease of getting in, the quality food at the show, the attentiveness of the staff and the chill vibe of most attendees. All that was great. And all that was overshadowed as soon as Dave took the stage.
All three nights — great song selection and great sound (though N1, Dave’s mic was a bit tinny and weird). Leaving song selection out of the mix...for just a moment...N2 was my clear favorite. It appeared that they prepared more for N2. These songs were just more polished in execution —the fills, the finish. Especially comparing N3 — where there was more than one song where they just weren’t quite on the same page. Dave usually jokes about screwing it up when that happens, but that just didn’t happen AT ALL on N2. And to add to that perfection — Amos Lee (or “aimlessly” as my wife believed Dave described his guest) on Angel From Montgomery and I’m with Her guesting on the Maker and Ants? These were great choices! It was like a dream to hear a violin again with Ants. And the vocals on Angel From Montgomery (particularly on the last chorus) was fantastic. And as if to make it complete, I got to hear Betrayal on Timmy’s second solo —- which was stunning.
I’d be thrilled with a release of the whole weekend, but just give me N2 and I’ll be content.
