Plumbing is worse. Fuck water.

Troubleshooting electric is infuriating though... when shit SHOULD be working but isn't.

That's exactly what was going on with me tonight. And, I'd be the first to admit I'm not an electrician. But, I'm also not a mechanic and can fill up my car with gas and change the oil. I don't know how switching out two outlets took three hours but it did. That said, I'm done and completely destressed.

Edit: But yeah, plumbing is probably worse.

I've replaced all the outlets and switches in my house no problem. But the most irritating thing is 3-way switches, which fortunately we've only had one of.

I also have had some trouble with a few of the ceiling lights because the existing 40 year old wiring was garbage. Same color wires, shit spliced together, cracking/peeling insulation.

How? The wiring is virtually the same.

FWIW, I am an electrician and always willing to try and help answer any questions anyone may encounter.

we're gonna be selling our house soon and we have 80's parquet in the kitchen and entrance. Thought about updating it a bit with standard vinyl kitchen tiles just to brighten it up and give it some more appeal. Got a quote from a local flooring place and they said it'd be like $1200. I was thinking half that. Every job is such a pain in the ass and so expensive

Hmm I wouldn't think a flooring job would be that cheap ($600). Pretty sure they'd have to remove the parquet, put down an underlayment, tile, and then possibly replace trim around the walls. No way that's less than $1000

Edit: but your last sentence is spot on

I dont really have to fix it but it will definitely attract buyers since the parquet is dated. The 80's celtics wouldn't want this parquet.

Looking to get some kind of rubber floor mats to go infront of my work bench in my garage. Anyone use anything they like? I need something that is 3ft by 12ft.

I use restaurant kitchen mats that I liberated when the comptroller shut down the restaurant I was working at. Non-slip, good on the feet. Porous though, so if you’re looking to protect the floor from spills they’re not much use for that.

I have 2 pieces of vinyl siding to replace on my house, anyone ever done this before? Seems like it has the potential to be a pain.

Save yourself the hassle and give the sellers like a $600 credit toward replacing it if it’s that big a deal. Most buyers don’t mind taking on something that needs a little updating so long as the rest of the house is in good shape.

Or just don’t do anything and fuck whoever is going to give you a hassle over it. I’d never offer up $600 to a buyer if it was never brought up.

think Steng is saying if the buyers make a big deal of it (ie, we really love this house but we hate that floor)

Is there anything actually wrong with the floor besides the fact that it’s dated?

Fuck anybody asking for money from a seller because something is dated.

Damaged? Ok. Dated? Go fuck yourself and your $600.

In this market you should have no trouble finding a buyer who won’t ask you for $600 because you have a dated section of floor.

Agreed we got 25K over asking for a house with a 20 year old roof and a 20 year old heating system.

no, nothings wrong with the floor. I do have the fix some of the thresholds, cove base around the cabinets, etc, but the floor is fine. It's more just a cheap way to improve the entire look of the house

Just have to weigh whether investing the $1200 for a new floor will improve the overall value of the home by enough over that to make it worth your while. If so, might be worth considering. But if it’s just in the foyer then it may not be worth the hassle and expense, as Mr Angry Pants (our buddy Scrocks) pointed out, just let the buyer take care of it and do it the way they would want.

I work for a family owned grocery store chain in Cleveland, I thought ordering the same mats we use in our production areas.
