We had one of the worst weather days ever in Colorado yesterday. Ahead of the storm currently dropping several feet of much needed snow in the mountains, winds gusting over 100mph whipped through the drought stricken front range, where Denver and Boulder are located.
A grass fire that started late Thursday morning was fanned by the high wind, and within just a matter of hours, had burned through ~6,000 acres of suburban residential land in the towns of Superior and Louisville, located just southeast of Boulder, and about 25 minutes northwest of Denver.
The wind began subsiding late Thursday night, and snow began falling midday Friday, helped to stop the fire from spreading even more. Officials are predicting close to 1,000 homes have been burned, along with many businesses. Entire housing developments burned with minimal warning. This will likely be the most destructive fire in Colorado history, and it all happened in less than 24 hours.
