there’s been a huge clemson investment in greenville over the last five+ years. our grad school has business and engineering programs up there. and for those graduates that don’t want to go to atlanta or charlotte, it’s a great growing city along that 85 corridor and just 35-45 minutes from campus. the university as a whole has grown a bunch since 2010 and the success of the football program, along with rising tuition costs and a sizable out of state population, has been a significant boon to the upstate.

the program at clemson is super insular though, which i think also plays into this. the dabo hire in and of itself was a very contained program type move. from an offensive coordinator perspective it’s been home grown guys, morris for a few years, now elliot and scott. venables has indicated he has no intention of going anywhere for the next couple of years. i agree with your point to bama being established and so it’s easier to turn over coaches, but also lately it’s every single year there’s a change. and they bring in guys from all over. there will be eventual turnover, but i don’t know if i envision it going the same way with clemson, for at least as long as dabo and the current university/athletic department infrastructure is in place.
