The girl is a fucking idiot. As a solo artist, she'll never come close to having 1/1000th of the following she had with the Lumineers.

I always wonder what is going on behind the scenes. It doesn't make sense otherwise. Maybe there was an abusive relationship with a band member? Maybe she realized they barely included her in the last album? Or maybe she really is just crazy enough to think her solo career will be better.

Either way, it sucks to see such a great band start to come apart.

Maybe she'd rather make her own music and be the frontwoman for it in front of smaller crowds than be background filler in front of larger crowds?

I know we live in a time where Twitter likes run the world, but not everyone is buying in full stop on that philosophy.

If you told a 23 year old me, perusing Craigslist (to find a way out of my parents’ basement), that I would join a band, get nominated for a couple Grammys, open for U2, sell out Madison Square Garden, travel the world a few times over, shake hands with the Obamas, and get to share music in front of thousands of people for my JOB....I woulda said you were NUTS! But I got to be part of that, and I’m so very grateful; but it’s time for me to step away and open a new chapter. Thank you to everyone who believed in us, and took a chance on some greasy kids in a minivan; who let us sleep on your couches and who helped me get out of my parents’ basement (even though they’re great). Best wishes to @thelumineers on their future endeavors, and stay tuned for mine.
Yeah, she seems pretty content in what she's achieved, and just wants to go solo now. Bummer though.

    Re: The Lumineers

Lumineers announced a new album called III

    from their website:

    Quote:
The new album III is audacious: every note, every syllable, and every moment of silence in between is emotionally charged. The album is darker in tone than previous albums and is presented in three chapters, with each one centering on one main character from a fictitious family known as the Sparks, who span three generations in the album’s storyline. III’s concept began while the band was writing in the Catskill mountains, where producer Simone Felice works. Mixing raw emotional themes with their ear-catching melodies, expressive vocals and trademark acoustic sound, III moves masterly in artistic directions not yet traveled by the band.

Written by the two founding members, Schultz and multi-instrumentalist Jeremiah Fraites, the album sees violinist/vocalist Lauren Jacobson officially joining the band. Her playing can be heard on the band’s previous two albums. She joins the touring lineup that includes pianist Stelth Ulvang, bassist/backing vocalist Byron Isaacs and multi-instrumentalist Brandon Miller. (After eight years, cellist/vocalist Neyla Pekarek left the group in 2018 to embark on a solo career.)

Regarding the new album, Fraites says, “This collection of songs worked out in a beautiful way, and I feel with this album we’ve really hit our stride.”

    Track listing:

    1. Donna
    2. Life In The City
    3. Gloria
    4. It Wasn’t Easy To Be Happy For You
    5. Leader of The Landslide
    6. Left For Denver
    7. My Cell
    8. Jimmy Sparks
    9. April
    10. Salt And The Sea
    11. Democracy (Bonus Track) (Leonard Cohen cover)
    12. Old Lady (Bonus Track)
    13. Soundtrack Song (Bonus Track)

Yeah I think I like this new song more than most of Cleopatra.

As for the Head and the Heart, I go back and forth between being bummed and annoyed at what they have become.

Honeybee that THATH released today is exponentially better than Missed Connection.

For TL, Gloria is a cool tune, pumped to hear the rest of the album.

These two new songs are really great. Life in the City seems to have a connection with Sleep on the Floor, and Donna might be the best song they've written.

After hearing the first “chapter” I’m behind the concept album. I just watched the videos and it’s cool it’s playing into that whole thing as well. Obviously watch them in order if you want to follow the story:

    Chapter 1: Gloria Sparks
    1. Donna - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V-plAPYbQvg
    2. Life in the City - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VLPsZT2ZAgE
    3. Gloria - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rh9RIqtNlIM

The whole thing is out there now. I am pretty impressed. It's a quality thrid album. Some filler in there but two or three really great songs. It Wasn't Easy To Be Happy For You is a certified jam. Pairs well with Leader Of The Landslide

Album is good. Not something I think I’ll listen to that often or throw on when I’m just hanging out though. It’s a little too heavy. Though I applaud them for the concept and for not just writing a whole bunch more Ho Heys. What does everyone else think?

Same. My favorite they’ve released actually. I never thought they’d top Cleopatra bc I was obsessed when released but III is beautifully done. Unique. IWETBHFY, Landside, & Jimmy Sparks are so good.

I can’t stop listening to My Cell. That beat is addictive. Love what they do on the piano in that tune.
Also Salt and the Sea is one I keep coming back to.

I try so hard with this band. I have a few songs where I think "not bad at all, try some more" then by the next song I gotta get this campy hipster bullshit out of my ear. They're like pancakes for me, I can eat half of one and then I cannot take anymore.
