Had a dream last night they added a run of shows on to the end of this tour, including 2 nights in Memphis.

Love these 30 Days of Dead compilations. On the 2012 release now. 10/17/83 Sugaree is nice.

"One thing I ask of you...." line always gets me. Such a beautiful song. The build up and slow release of Sugaree is just too good. Puts me in a great mood no matter what.

Nothing quite like being on a Dead kick!

Had an awesome jam session last night. Highlight was definitely the 15 minute Dark Star we played. Such a fun song to get lost in.

That's something I'm curious about their sets.

Are Dead & Co like Phish where they'll have a set of standards they'll play every couple of shows and play the big songs maybe once or twice a tour? Or are they just whatever they feel like playing that night?

Dead and Co. have pretty predictable set lists.

You expect a Mike's or Tweezer every 3rd or 4th show but Dead and Co. doesn't mix up as much as it seems. Could just be me. Feel like they open up with Playing>Cold Rain and Snow every other show.

I've never dipped my toes into 80s Dead really but this morning I had an epiphany: Donna is gone, Brent is there, you have all the late 70s tunes in the catalog. Why not?

I started 5/6/81 - so good. Early 80s may be my new favorite period (previously held by '78).

1987 & 1989 are fantastic years for the band. The second half of 1987 is legitimately in the top 4 years for me for the band.

    Right now for me:

    1973
    1977
    1970
    1987
    1976

Are my top 5 favorite years for them!

early 80's dead always seemed a little coked out to me. some songs we're played so much faster than they had just a couple years before. everything sounds fine, and Brent is the best thing to ever happen to Jerry, but it's an era that seems very transitional to me. 89' is a great year, and come spring 90', i think the band hit a new peak.

80's is my favorite decade. Early 80's and 87-89 are so damn good. Spring 90 is a lot of fun too. Not to mention 80's had Althea and songs like that.

Brent was the best thing that ever happened to that band. It's been talked about a million times but Jerry and Brent's chemistry is just something you can't duplicate.

i often feel that had Brent not killed himself by speedballing after the 90 summer tour, Jerry would have continued to get healthy and maybe we'd have gotten a handful of more years of Jerry, even if he wanted to retire the Grateful Dead and just tour with JGB.

Keith was getting to be a bit much by the end of 77' though, damn. really high in the mix, and his playing pretty much just mirrored what the guitars were doing. Brent made the piano a solo instrument again in the bands sound.
