Re: Formula 1 Discussion

The Netflix show is the reason I got interested in F1. I love it.

I just record the races and watch them at my leisure, haha.

I'm looking at Stubhub individual day tix; heck, for $100 you can get a Main Grandstand front row ticket directly across from the pits, between the start and finish lines. Maybe not the best view, but these tix also get you into any of the GA areas. I may just do FRI to see the track and the practice sessions, stay for that night's concert.

Maybe I need to check back. When I looked a few weeks ago I didn't see anything for under $350. Thanks.

I assumed it was due to limited seating, but is TX even doing that? Not sure.

$266 is the lowest I'm seeing on StubHub for GA....

Yeah, the official ticket source, Ticketmaster, is only selling 3-day packages. But looks like some folks are buying them to get the SUN race ticket, and selling off the FRI/SAT individual tickets. Stubhub has individual day tickets; hopefully they are good (like the 3 individual tickets that come with a 3-day Gorge Lawn package) and not a single wristband that covers all 3 days.

$48 reserves seats for FRI only, and $108 for Main Grandstand front row: https://www.stubhub.com/formula-1-un...ent/104754944/

Drive to Survive is probably the best show on TV. You couldn’t dream up characters like Toto, Stroll, and Gunter.

I started with Season 2 but went back and watched Season 1 because I enjoyed it so much, so I'd recommend just starting with Season 1. You'll probably tear through it.

Part of the fun is the racers swapping teams season to season too, so it will be more interesting in the long run to see where they were through each of the seasons to the present.

I’d start with Season 1. Need to know all the characters.

Really looking forward to the Russian kid in Season 4. Shitty human and shitty driver should make for excellent TV.

Interesting. Can you elaborate on why?

I watch qualifying on TV, but practice days have never held my interest.

I'd assume it similar to preferring a practice round at Augusta vs a tourney round. Much more relaxed atmosphere, way smaller crowd, able to move around the track/course without missing the most important action...and TV is the only way to watch the final round or actual race, as being there you won't have much of a chance of taking that all in.

Ok, that's what I figured but wasn't sure if there was some other element that I was missing.

Basically all of this. You can take your time and post up at different areas around the track and see all of the cars come through multiple times. And outside of ending up having a seat where an important pass or mistake happens on Sunday, there's really nothing more exciting than qualifying in my opinion.

But, I enjoy the tournament more than the practice rounds at Augusta.

Yea my wife loves that Netflix show. She wants to go to Austin. May just get Friday and/or Saturday tickets based on the talk above. Would be nice if the Strokes played that Friday night considering they were supposed to play there last summer.

I have been an F1 fan for a while, but Drive to Survive got me totally obsessed with it again. To the point that I made a YouTube F1 channel last year and post about F1 twice a week now. It has actually been cool to build a small F1 community (around 500 subs right now). All that came from watching season 1 of Drive to Survive .

Edit: just realized that read as a plug for my channel, which it wasn’t, but now I might as well, it is (Greg Allen F1)

I have also been dabbling in the F1 game on XBox. I have not been a huge race gamer in the past but that shit is so hard, haha.

Not like I'm in a simulator or anything but it gives a tiny additional appreciation of how good these drivers are (or maybe just how bad I am at race games?). Usually a shit show in the mid to back field trying to hold a position.

Nope, I grew up racing cars in real life, and have played racing games for ever. The F1 games are very difficult, although they get a lot more easy if you spent the $200 bucks for a wheel/pedals setup. Even still, zero assists are insane in that game haha

Having actual competition really makes you appreciate how good Hamilton is. I don’t feel like he’ll end up in the GOAT conversation, but he was brilliant today.

I signed up for a trial of PS Now so I could play F1 2020 for free. What a fun game. I'm playing on casual mode where they do the braking for you as long as you follow the line. Still wildly difficult for certain tracks (looking at you Monaco).

Into episode 8 of season 1 of Drive to Survive.

    I'd say I'm hooked.

The strong start to 2021 for @F1 continued with 857K average viewership for Sunday's #SpanishGP on ESPN - all four races this season have been above 850K. Next up: May 23 #MonacoGP - live on ESPN2, re-air on @ABCNetwork
