Re: Official Grateful Dead Thread

My sister has become a big GD fan over the last 3/4 years or so. Her bday is coming up and I'm thinking about commissioning an artwork of a happy frog relaxing in a glass of milk. Something simple, just a cute line drawing or rough watercolor

They just cancelled both Florida shows. I’m pretty bummed.

Not really a logical thing to do, as the delta peak has passed in FL (weeks ago) and rates will continue to be dropping in the time between now and the shows, but will likely be peaking (or at least not well beyond the peak) in other places at that time. Also FL has higher vaccination rates (both for those who have received one dose and those who have received both doses) than the national average, and higher rates for those who have received at least one vaccine dose than Colorado which they just had no issue with adding shows to.

I mean not that this matters much to me, Dead and Co isn’t very good. But it sucks for those who were pumped about going.

It makes sense considering they were requiring all pit attendees to have a vax card at all other shows and most of the band is old as dirt.

Plus that means FL didnt allow the local crew to be checked for vax.

So I may have misunderstood or missed something. I mean I know there’s some dumb ass rules down here (obvious understatement) but would those rules impact the bands ability to implement their own policies like in reference to the things you said? I would assume private entities would be allowed to continue to proceed as they wish, but if they aren’t allowed to do that then it does make sense.

PS i live and work in FL but under the federal umbrella as a place of employment and we’ve had about the strictest policies regarding masking/vax/etc of anyone, anywhere so I may just be out of the loop with what’s going on in the private sector.

Large events not allowed to have any kind of vax requirements thanks to DeSantis. He is not allowing individual private entities to even make their own decisions.

So from experience that’s not holding up. I just had tickets to a comedy show at a local venue (one of the cities longest standing venues that holds a couple thousand people I’d guess) and although i couldn’t go cause i was out of town, i received an email the week of the show specifying their updated covid policies which included that you must have either vax card or a negative test within 48hrs to enter. This was less than 2 weeks ago but I guess things could have changed since then. I also still see signs on businesses that say masks required to enter.
Regardless, perhaps they just didn’t want to deal with it. I guess I don’t blame them but it’s unfortunate because my guess is the people being hurt by this aren’t the ones supporting the radical right. Anyways, sorry to those who won’t be able to make it and were looking forward to it.

Its fines they are subject to for asking for it. Kicked in a couple weeks ago.

I would assume not having local crew being vaccinated since thats likely union is large part of the problem too.

Ehhhh...there's quite a bit of it in the modern Dead fandom.

No different than DMB and (maybe to a lesser extent) Phish fanbases, tbh.

For those who have been to a show this year, what time are they hitting the stage? I’m going to see them in Charlotte on Monday. ticket says 7:00 so just wondering what to expect!

If you go to dead&co's instagram there are pictures of all the setlists with the times of when they took the stage and left the stage for each set.

Bear in mind that the last 2 shows in chicago were messed up times because of rain. On the whole they have been starting around 715. Best be in your seat at 7.

Jonah will do great. He's a good actor and I can see how they'll transform his look. Curious about him getting Jerry's elvish voice down though. Wonder who plays Bobby and Phil. I'm excited for this.
