26 letters, and a # for a numbered song

It was a tongue-in-cheek comment, I'm not actually fishing for info. Come On, doby, you should have known that

Reading between the lines, it looks like 4/27 or 5/4 for a single, unless something changes, and most likely a new song called "Come On".

Cool, DMB's twitter reminded us to redeem the album codes that the majority of us haven't received yet.

There are a number of posters on this board that will leak little tidbits as they are able to. Bruce is one of them. I know you want them to come right out and say "this is what's on the album, this is when it's being released, this is when the single is coming", etc. but they can't. If they did, there goes any info they get in the first place.

Some of us appreciate the tidbits and in some cases (maybe not this one), they do come right out and provide info. Having been around here for awhile, I know who to listen to and who is likely full of shit. Bruce is the former. If you don't care for the tidbits or can't put the pieces together, that sounds like more of a "you problem" than a "them problem."

No idea. Maybe it’s a confidence issue? Singing quieter opens you up to cracking and froggy voice if you catch yourself trying to sing a tiny bit louder coming from soft singing. See two step at spac 09.

But I’d still love to know how his voice is great currently.

I feel like we're very close to something new. DMB social media posting more meaningful things than usual, rumored dates for news. Very close, I sense it

Re: New Album Coming This Summer

While I know this will never happen, I think there's a simple solution. In my personal opinion, this band would sound so much better if they took some time to reevaluate the way they play. Don't play so aggressively, slow down, start playing with more dynamics like they used to, and then the rest will fall into place from there. I was just listening to Live Trax 11 and Bartender is so much more impactful and powerful when played slower and without Dave screaming every chance he gets. Why does Dave push his voice so much? Easy. Between Carter's heavy hitting, Rashawn and Jeff screaming to be the loudest, Tim's shredding and the warp speed they play now, Dave has to push his voice harder to either be heard or keep up. I notice this with my own band. When I can't hear myself very well and they are playing louder and faster it's harder to keep up vocally. Which puts more strain on my vocal chords and then I lose my voice easier. Why does Carter play so aggressively? See above and adjust.

As for #40, I'm alright with Dave finally writing some lyrics to it. If they are good and fit the same feel he's always sung with then why not? The whole lyrical improv thing was never a big selling point to me. I remember in 2000 really loving the new tunes, especially Grey Street, but it drove me bonkers that I couldn't sing along with it. Sure, once in a while he'd find that sweet spot and something magic might come out, but more often than not it was just stream of conscious to fill out an unfinished song. #40 has always been a nice little song, but not because of the lyrics. That melody, guitar riff and the emotion Dave would put into it are what drove it for me.

I definitely think last year's break had a lot to do with Carter, as well as the fact they went an entire tour playing Two Step in its entirely just once.

The lyrics are a huge part to 40... I would hope if it was actually recorded that Dave went back and read a lot of his improvs and went from there.

It's funny how playing live all of the dynamics fall into place right away when you are playing at the right tempo. It's easier for me to control dynamics or change things on the fly because I'm usually playing solo which I know you can relate to, but I just try to think of listening to a tape recording being reversed. Is it just one constant wall of sound or are there peaks and valleys? Helps a lot with the relationship between my guitar and voice, sometimes in super loud rooms I play too hard and push too hard vocally though.

After all the hype behind Big Whiskey and AFTW i have very low expectations for the new album... the fact its been 5 years in the making to finally get this out is def not a good sign. I even wonder if at point all of the members were in the studio together. I feel they just cant stand one another anymore. Hopefully I am wrong but my excitement level is nothing like it was for the last few albums

There was basically zero hype about AFTW, Jeff and Carter were doing projects together on an off year while D&T were touring Europe and the US, Carter and Dave are bff's

There was no promotion but people were going crazy with hype after all of Lillywhites tweeting... he even went on to say no more big 3 and that album would make the big 4.... NOT!

The more I read about the producers being used and the older song names that keep popping up the more it feels like Batson's comment was very literal relating to past/present/future.

It is starting to feel like this will be a lot liked Busted Stuff but for all the albums. What I mean is, we may only get 2-4 new songs and everything else is just going to be older things we have already heard but finally finished.

    Past:
    #40
    Idea of You
    Break Free
    Sugar Will
    Shotgun
    Kind Intentions?

    Present:
    Bismarck
    Black and Blue Bird
    Do You Remember
    Samurai Cop
    Bob Law

    Future:
    Come On
    That Girl Is You
    Cha Cha
    Callalily

Here I go again bringing up Radiohead and Phish.

Phish put out an album (Undermind) the year they "called it quits" (2004)

Radiohead put "True Love Waits" (a live rarity) as the last song on their most recent album.

So #40 showing up or this album being the last might not be too crazy of an idea.

"When we stopped recording for the band to start their summer tour, I returned to England with one of the eight CDs that I had made. Five for the Band, one for [Steve Lillywhite], one for Bruce Flohr, and the one for myself and had written on them 'the summer so far'. We only did that because all the other CDs that I had made up to then, I had called 'the story so far'. 'The summer so far' was never going to be an album title, by the way, just a way to distinguish what was then the most up-to-date CD."[3]
