Yeah it’s not bad and she likes going..the extra 1hr15mins a few days a week helps out a lot

Extended day is supervised by some old ladies and I think a couple of hs kids

Do they still make kids repeat grades in your area? In my district that practice stopped almost 10 years ago. And then administrators are surprised when kids who would benefit from repeating a grade continue to struggle and fail in older grades.

Right, it was mostly funding for after care which is fine as long as it isn't mandatory for all kids to be in school 8am-6pm.

School doesn't need more hours, it needs shorter days with more quality content and shorter more frequent breaks.

I'd like to see something like this.

4 day school week T-F for students, teachers work all 5 days twice a month
Teacher hours 8am-4pm and work
Student hours 10am-4pm
average 6 weeks of school 1 week off
2 weeks at Christmas
first 3 weeks of June and last week of July off

I don't think kids repeat anything until high school where they only repeat courses they fail.

There is a movement in many districts in SEPA to flip the start/finish times of High School and Elementary School. A lot of research points to HS kids benefitting from a later start time.

this keys on to my real issue with kamala's proposal. rather than habituating our kids to insane work hours with zero home life, the focus should be on making it so their parents don't need to keep them at school until 6 in the first place.
