The shine tends to wear off on songs when they don’t evolve in the live setting. Squirm is a great song, but it’s played exactly the same way now as the first time it was played. Given the short track lengths of the new album, a majority of the new tunes could end up getting stale live. If they’re good songs they won’t stop being good, but fans might not be clamoring to hear them as often.

I do like Monsters on first listen, but based on how short it is, I’m not sure how much room there is for the band to shine on it. This seems like another song that could have been better suited for a Dave solo album. I hope I’m wrong.

And for God sake, can Dave stop referring to all these new songs as “another little song.” I don’t want more “little songs.” ��*♂️

Saw that Monster was played “that’s nice but I’m definitely not listening to it before the album as I’ve already heard half the songs”

2hrs later- I’ll just listen to a snippet to find out why there are positive reviews
1hr later - I’ll just listen to it once then wait till May
30mins later - on 8th listen analysing every element

I hope there is at least one song left I haven’t listened to when it’s realessed in May!

I absolutely love the verses and drum beats louder parts. Lyrics are great. That said the chorus just sucks the life out of the song for me. I tried to trick myself into liking it for years and Never could get into it.

Yeah I really like this song but the shortness is likely gonna hurt it or Atleast proves the point of why we were all concerned about the short songs to begin with.

As for the little song comment, this kinda shows Dave’s insecurity about his song writing anymore. Hopefully this album does hit the mark and gets his confidence in his own writing back.

Is Dave really into Jesus or is this meant to be ironic and subversive? As someone who doesn’t believe in Jesus I find the lyric a little over the top but I’m also thinking I might be misunderstanding the delivery and he means Jesus is one of the monsters in your head too?

I take it as a neutral statement of the way life is. Devil wants your soul, Jesus saves, things change, some things basically stay the same, people grow up, people die, funny the way it is type of thing.

Yeah I mean, he has a lot of lyrics referring to God and Jesus. Christmas song is just a song about Jesus. I think Dave just appreciates the story/myth and its impact on humanity, even though he doesn't practice the religion. I'm as atheist as it gets, and generally get turned off by over the top religious lyrics, but Christmas Song is one of my favorites. Coincidentally, Time Bomb might be my very least favorite DMB song.
