Re: Summer Tour Warm Up Videos

I already called Shake Me from Tampa in 2019. It’s almost a stone cold lock.

Bands like Phish and Goose typically put out videos of the musical highlight from shows. DMB just puts out whatever the least creative choice would be.

    Perpetually frustrating.

Could be worse, they could just put out single tracks from a stream already aired one after the next till The whole show was done lol

If that happens, whatever person that is put in charge of these decisions is definitely trolling the fanbase. Lol

Some time ago I did some research to understand who might be the people behind those decisions.

    • Stephen Thomas (should be this guy here, a freelancer specialized in music recording that has worked with the Stones too: http://www.stevethomas.info).
    • Mike Lane (video director of many DMB videos, including Gorge, Piedmont Park and I think most of all Drive-ins.

From here we know also that “Each camera footage is isolated and a copy of the director’s cut is kept for post-production reference. DMB typically plays a two and a half hour set, accruing up to two terabytes per show. Each of these shows are archived on external drives and catalogued back at DMBʼs studio in Charlottesville, VA. After the content is captured it is then considered for future uses that include web videos, social media and potential live show releases.

We also know that when Sam Erickson made the wonderful documentary “The Road to Big Whiskey”, back in 2009, he was given access to a huge archive of unreleased footage, which included behind the scene footage, concert clips and so on (one example is the unreleased footage of 2008.08.19 @ Staples Center show, when Dave announced Roi’s death).
All that amazing footage was credited to Red Light Management (of course), and I believe that Patrick Jordan is one of the managers that takes care of that aspect.
Curiously, Jordan is quite active on social media under the nick of quarterroy (see here his FB), posting DMB photos and links to streams. I assume that the same guy is taking care of sharing the material for broadcasts also for Phish, and maybe is involved in Livephish portal too (which is powered by nugs.net).

What's your take on that, Bruce? I enjoyed the interview you guys did with Rodrigo, but I didn't really get the sense that he is as "in the loop" when it comes to content/marketing decisions as one might think based on his role.

My point, I guess, is that a lot of us (myself included) have disparaged the band's social media content for a while, but it kinda seems like Rodrigo is just doing his job and maybe doesn't have as much access to stuff as we assume.

He doesn’t have nearly the access I thought he would or that he, in reality, should. Sure, they should be some limits to that stuff, and I totally get wanting to have a pretty tight grip over what is posted, but there’s a lot left to be desired there for sure.

Joyride sounds too much like something that could've been on ED for my liking. It's not a terrible song, but it's in that pile of DMB tunes about which I feel ambivalent. It's better than anything on SU, but that's not praise...will gladly have it replace Bayou for the rest of our shows...

Joyride is a decent tune. Way more interesting then anything else they have put out in this years series.

Was very happy to see it pop up at SPAC in 2019.

For being a hard judge on touring, I’ll admit I did see a lot of fun tunes that year.

Thanks for posting these as always...

Did anyone rip the audio of the Sirius broadcast? I only started a little into Dancing Nancies... I'd love to hear #41, Grey Street's triumphant return (FINALLY!), and the new song, "Walk Around the Moon".

Edit: I enjoyed the sweet little jam they did in "Sweet". Did anything else stand out to anyone?
