First off, publicly, Boyd is "taking some time away". They may be leaving him a window of time to come back before replacing him. They may also just be exploring their sound without a violin. It doesn't mean they never want one again just because they don't have one now.

Reality, 99% chance Boyd never comes back or is allowed back. They may very well just be waiting for the "Me Too" movement and for Boyd's lawsuits to get settled. This could just be a perception/PR move. Wait for everything to die down. Distance yourself from both him and the violin at the moment.

6-8 months from now everything could be settled with Boyd. If it goes down quietly or in his favor I still can't see him coming back unless he becomes a born again violinist. However, once that is all in the past they may feel more ready to bring in another violinist and re-incorporate that into their sound.

Other things to think about - Has Dave or the band ever really said - we hate it up there. They always talk about how great it is. Years later is when it comes out that everyone hated each other.

As for Buddy, I dunno... I have a feeling Ariana Grande may have deeper pockets right now then DMB. Nobody is paying DMB $4M a show. Also, if I had to choose between watching Dave dance on stage 75 nights a year or Ariana dance on stage 75 nights a year... it would be an easy choice. Buddy truly could be the perfect bridge/fill in before they decide what is next as far as a violin goes. Who knows how his contract is even written.

Buddy is a musician. I am sure he would rather play with DMB than Grande.

He was with Ariana in Manchester when the bombings happened. I’m sure they have a pretty deep connection

But, I agree that he must love being able to play more freely and the fan interaction with DMB than just being the guy in the shadows with Ariana. But I think he toured with her in 2018 so he might pull double duty when he can

I know it's a long shot, but has anyone in the know heard any rumblings of a 2019 winter tour? I'm guessing not because the trend has been "winter tours in album years" and obviously not going to get my hopes up. Mostly just curious as to whether the sparse winter tour trend will continue.

They were believe it or not. Original rumors were sometime in August. This makes more sense than pre-Colorado or Gorge. What's interesting is that they have shows in Sioux Falls on Oct. 18 and 20, with Oct. 19 open.

Wonder if there will be a full public show on Oct. 19, or if Dave will be doing other smaller charity things that day in the area. Either way — two full band corporate shows is bonkers. Sanford is a massive health provider in the Midwest, but shelling over $2M+ for two employee events is crazy.

Doing my damnedest to score some tickets, Sioux Falls is my hometown so this is ALMOST a dream come true. It's kind of a nightmare actually, being shut out of your favorite band's concert in your tiny Midwest hometown ... I had dreams like this growing up. But usually I'm allowed INTO the concert.

As the resident dmb nerd , I got a lot of texts today. When I gathered that it was two shows I surprised that the anchor tenant of the venue didn't have a home game. Strange there is a gap.
