Re: The Travellers Thread

Anybody ever been tagged as not allowed to board when reentering the US? Happened to my wife when we were coming back from England this summer. I believe her boarding pass said SSSS or something like that. She got pulled out for enhanced searches 3 times. Eventually she was allowed to board. Even though when she scanned her boarding pass at the gate the computer alerted that she was still not allowed to board.

I think this is the worst trip I’ve had in terms of weather. Just too hot. Prague first day was pretty miserable, given you’re walking a lot and it’s hills.

I arrived to Croatia yesterday. It was 94F. Took a 4 hour bus to dubrovnik, where it’s supposed to be on average 94F my entire time here. Luckily I leave tomorrow, but I imagine dubrovnik would be cool if it wasn’t as hot (and you actually plan to party and use the beaches here). I just planned on walking the city and the walls but it being all stairs has made it miserable with the heat. Heading to one of the islands tomorrow. Trying to beat the heat with the commute, hopefully can catch an early bus

I appreacite the beer the bohemian aspect of Prague and the music of Vienna. Both look kick ass. Big history buff so pretty much anything like that sells me. Love museums and architecture as well.

Was just in Prague and thought how nice it would be for a romantic get away. I’m sure Vienna can be said of similarly but haven’t been there. The beer in Prague was great; I usually don’t drink pilsners but they went down pretty great.

Starting to put together return trip to Italy (4th time overall):

1-2 nights in Milan (Airbnb or hotel)
    2 nights in Venice (Airbnb)
1 night in Florence (Airbnb or hotel)
5-6 nights in Tuscany (villa somewhere between Siena - Montalcino - Montepulciano - Cortona)
4 nights in Lake Como (family property)

Anyone have any rec's on other cities in Tuscany to visit other than the ones listed above (skipping Lucca, San Gimignano, Volterra)?
Anyone have any wine tour rec's?

Yes, this happens to my fiance a lot because she works in the biomedical field therefore has the resources to do something dangerous (she has access to viruses and stuff)

Work travel has picked up significantly. Here in San Antonio working all weekend, through next Friday, then probably be back again the week after. Exhausting stuff, certainly not the fun travel.

My wife is an elementary school teacher. I guess technically she has lots of access to viruses too.

Has anyone been to Victoria Falls? I'm heading up there next month for a few days, then crossing over to Kasane, in Botswana, for a couple of days at the Chobe National Park. A light work trip.

I'm looking at going on an all inclusive trip to the Caribbean sometime in February. I've never been on an all inclusive trip like this before so I was hoping someone here could give me some advice/suggestions.

First, I'll lay out a few details to help you understand what I'm looking for:

-Only 3-4 days. Does not need to be on a weekend. Is it cheaper if its a Mon-Thurs?

-Not specific as to where but I'd like to spend as little as possible.

-Looking for it to include airfare from Tampa, food, drinks, lodging.

With that said, anything come to mind?

I've only done one all-inclusive resort, its not really my style - but I thoroughly enjoyed my time at this one in Panama.

I've been in Chengdu for over a year now. Couple more months and I'll be moving back to Canada to work in a national park for 6 months and then probably to the US to work. Been out for north America for 12 of the last 15 years. Mixed emotions about moving back. But parents getting old and nephews growing up. Such is life.

Anyone been to Puerto Rico? What are some things to know?

We're thinking of doing a four day getaway near the end of January. Found cheap flights out of Chicago and a super reasonable Airbnb on Isla Verde Beach.

I liked it. Slovenia and Bosnia were standouts. Would avoid most of Croatia again and just stick to the wine regions.

Nice pics man, looks beautiful. I guess I've always been more drawn to northern India for whatever reason but those beaches and that food looks nice.

For me, just a few trips a couple hours away to see some mountains. Chinese new years coming up at the end of the month, but everything is well expensive. Might just stay in Sichuan and see some places I haven't been to yet. But the thought of taking buses and trains during Chinese new year already makes me want to stab people.

I'm heading out West in March. 1 night in Denver, 3 nights in Telluride and a night in Santa Fe. I've never been to any of these. Would love a cool bar or brewery to check out in some of these spots or anything else cool to do. Will be snowboarding 2 of the days in Telluride

Getting married in late September, looking to do our honeymoon right after. Have a total window of about 14 days (travel included) and we're looking for a solid mix of relaxation and activities (i.e. hiking, national parks, water adventure, etc.) Any hot takes/suggestions I should be considering?

    1) Ideal Trip: New Zealand, starting looking at some many self-drive itineraries they have
    2) Back Up: Few days in Maui (or Kauai, my favorite place on earth) and then ~week in BAMF
    3) Lazy, mini-moon option: 5 days laid up in Mexico or Caribbean

Ah yeah... Caribbean would be out with hurricane season. I should have specified with regards to Mexico. It'd be like Cabo... something on Baja since I'm in San Diego.

New Zealand is great, but just keep in mind you're looking at losing a full day traveling there. Also, if you're planning on driving, just make sure you're aware that getting places (specifically on the south island) can take a long time because you're navigating around mountains, there aren't a lot of roads, etc. For example, we took a bus tour from Queenstown to Milford Sound and then drive one way was close to five hours (with a few 5-10 minute stops).

And I'll just say you're going to wish you had more than the 13ish days you have. There's an overwhelming amount of things you'll want to see and do.

all make sense. And yeah, would love to have more days, which maybe we'll be able to do, but at the same time, there aren't many chances (for us) to take a 3-week vacation. So while not 100% ideal, our honeymoon would be the best chance to take a trip this long.
