DMB Madness Crowd-Sourced Bracket

How about a 68-song bracket of the top user-submitted DMB songs for you to make your picks during quarantine?

First off, I want to give a huge thank you to the 56 people who participated by submitting their Top 50 songs in order. Original thread here.

The Process
Using each person's individual Top 50 rankings, I granted the top song 50 points, second song 49 points, and so on from there down to the 50th song earning 1 point. Aggregating the totals, I came up with the OVERALL song rankings. In the event of a tie (and there was one) I gave the song omitted from less submissions the higher seed. Using those rankings and a snaking placement, I assigned each song a seed 1-16 within the four regions named after some iconic venues. I then took songs ranked 61-64 (the 16 seeds) and matched them with songs 65-68 (the 17 seeds) to create the First Four play-in round. For example, 61st-ranked #40 was matched against 68th-ranked Everyday. The winner will move into the bracket to play the #1 seed from their assigned region. Since #40/Everyday is assigned to the Red Rocks Region, this winning pick will slide in as #16 there and play Pig in the first round. The first four songs to miss the bracket were So Much To Say, Hello Again, So Damn Lucky and Lying in the Hands of God.

Instructions
Start at the top with the First Four play-in round and decide the winners of those four match-ups. The winners move into the main bracket within their associated region to play the #1 seed from that region. Make your picks from there to complete the bracket and decide your overall winner.

Bracket Files: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1e6...sPP89ZAMYAoxDQ
There's 2 versions and you can choose what you prefer...
1) .PDF file for easy printing and to hand-write your picks.
2) Original Excel file. The empty boxes each have a drop-down with a formula to show the two song choices. Starting with the empty #16 seeds, select your pick, then the remaining empty boxes will pre-populate your available choices as you move through the bracket. No need to type any song names. It is formatted to print full page when you're done.

I have also provided copies with seeds removed to give you a choice when filling out your bracket in case the seed numbers sway your decisions.

Just wanted to say thanks for doing this. This stuff really helps me, and I'm sure a lot of others, kill time. I already completed the first round (well, 90% of it, Crush v. Watchtower is really killing me.)

    Cool stuff.

Can we set up a bracket with voting and play it out as a group?

You're so welcome! This was exactly the purpose - to be a fun way to pass the time during quarantine. If you're also a Mumford & Sons fan, I made a bracket for them as well: https://www.reddit.com/r/mumfordands...dness_bracket/

Yes, of course! I say go for it. Sounds like another fun quarantine time-killer. What do you think is the best way to get this started?

I think a Google Form might work out the best. We can make forms for each round of each region and see how it plays out. Just a thought, though.

Idk. We've done it via threads before but that gets tedious and really gums up the boards since polls can only have ten options here. Surely there's a site out there where we can input the bracket then open up voting round by round?

Someone could probably use Survey Monkey or set up a google form.

Why not just do it like an actual tournament bracket? Take the top 64 or 68, seed them, and make a bracket from a blank. Have people fill out the bracket, then do the voting for each round weekly. Award points each round just like any tournament bracket pool. Ya got all summer, no rush!

I get your point but I did have Little Thing #15 overall and consider that and An Another Thing all kind of one in the same

I think just like NCAA we could have a deadline to fill out bracket(s) and then voting begins. A new round each day with a deadline for votes with official round results posted here after the deadline.

If there is a way to show the current standings and be able to track/refresh after we respond to add a bit of suspense.

I don't think we need to submit brackets to anyone or have a "Thread Pool" for anyone to score.

I'd've combined those as well as combining #36 & Everyday. I get that there are differences, but they are really just variations and/or evolutions of each other, regardless of how any of us feel about them. Rain Down on Me (John The Revelator) is a different from JTR, but it also shares parts and evolved into JTR. For me, despite having JTR as my #1, it's the LWS version that is the best...the current live version is still great, but not as good (slight de-evolution). Both, however, are far superior to Rain Down on Me/John The Revelator, but they're all variations on the same harmonic/melodic theme. As opposed to how So Right is clearly based on the Monkey Man riff, but the switch from acoustic to electric and the syncopation are the first steps to making it a completely different song.

Yeah, now that I'm thinking about it, this would make the most sense. I can shut down the Google Form and we can think up a deadline.

Yeah, can just remove it from this list here. Little Thing actually came in 97th overall. It was in the Top 50 for 8 people.

Considered combining these in the rankings, but too many people listed both in their Top 50 and it would have been a real pain.

Maybe we sync up with the Drive-In series?

Adding a couple ideas to chew on:
Brackets to be filled out by tomorrow.
First 4 from today “counts” just to get this thing rolling.
First Round vote Opens Wednesday results by Drive-In showtime
    Repeat each week...
