Not a bash against you b/c you are only comparing opening tracks, but I've seen people on this board saying none of these songs belong in the Big3 discussion. Stop putting those undeniably great albums on such a pedestal and just enjoy the music like normal folks.

You have some good points. It's dumb to pretend that EVERY song on the big 3 is a genius work of art miles ahead of anything new. Or that all of Dave's songwriting now is terrible compared to all his old stuff. Especially on Crash
DIDO's chorus is lazy at best, the verse is almost as bad. In my not so humble opinion, most if not all of this album is better than DIDO.
Let You Down had potential. I love the chords and the mood. But Dave mailed it in with the lyrics and song structure. Ruined the song the same way he's ruined new songs.
Then again, there aren't any songs on AFTW that are as good as Two Step or #41
The album overall is not as good as any of the big 3 albums, I don't think, but would I place some songs on AFTW higher on my list than some songs in the big 3? Absolutely.
AFTW has 3 songs that I think are really good. The big 3 each have at least 7.
Also, I think BOWA is better than Broken Things. Not that I don't like Broken Things, I do. The violin solo is orgasmic, the bari work is wonderful and Dave's vocal melodies (in the verse at least) are very good. But BOWA is better.

6 of the 11 tracks Dave is not listed as a composer. Really spreading it around these days.

On the booklet it says "All songs written by David J Matthews except Broken Things and Belly Full (Matthews/Alagia)
Then a list of other band credits.
Writing the same as he has for years, mainly himself but with help from producers/band members.
