Ants Podcast 44: Gorge View Lager - Discussion Thread

The summer break is over and the band is back in full swing. We review our pre-2nd leg predictions and find that we were all, well, wrong. Matt and Joe talk about their experience at Gorge 2014 including some great friends made. Once again, our longest podcast yet, so you'll have to check it out!

You got me there. Sometimes I wish I didn't have all these, you know, *thoughts* in my head. Being analytical is such a drag. If only I could stare at a wall and breathe through my mouth 24/7, things would be so much easier.

    Enjoy your milk.

I think it would be interesting to see the +- song stat breakdown for this tour. Do you guys have any capabilities of getting to & displaying that? Any songs get a 1.0 or -1.0?

Re: Ants Podcast 44: Gorge View Lager - Discussion Thread

I agree with Jake on the DTE show. I posted this in the Setlist Game/Chat, but wanted to re-post here after I heard it being called out in the podcast. NOTE: This is pre-Gorge.

    6-25-14
    Acoustic:
Two Step +1 - awesome opener
Snow Outside +2 - probably my favorite song on AFTW
Stolen Away +2 -debatable, but I had never seen it live and kind of enjoy it
Little Red Bird (Dave Solo) +3 - awesome song, love that Dave played solo (1 of 2 plays)
Crush (Dave and Tim) +4 - great song acoustic and electric IMO, good change up
Typical Situation +5 - great acoustic (1 of 3 plays)
Pay for What You Get +5 - I like this song (1 of 5 plays)
Ants Marching +6 - awesome closer

Overall, the acoustic set was rare and had a great variety. Dave Solo, Dave & Tim, slow vs. faster songs.

    Electric
So Right +7 - solid opener
The Stone +8 - no critique needed (1 of 3 plays)
Save Me +8 - no LLs and good positioning
    Proudest Monkey +9 - I like this song (1 of 7 plays)
Satellite +8 - Ehhh song for me, and I hate it after Proudest Monkey
Shake Me +8 - Dont mind SMLAM, and its not a closer
The Riff +9 - I like this song
    You & Me +8 - BLAH!!!
Raven + 9 - After a 4 song lull, into Raven really boosted my spirits. Love this song (1 of 3 plays)
Seek Up +10 - Awesome song, great placement (1 of 8 plays)
    SMTS>>ASTB>>WWYS +11, 12, 13 - Awesome songs, great switch up into WWYS
    Granny +14 - I like this as a closer

    Encore
Space Between +14 - Not a huge fan, but don't mind it here with full band
Grey Street +15 - Love the song, not my favorite closer, but beats the hell outta SMLAM here

Overall, when you look at THIS summer tour, I really like this show at DTE 6-25-14. Besides a middle of electric set 4 song lull, and a debatable weak encore, it has to be up there for this tour.

Great podcast, guys! This was my 11th year at the Gorge for all three nights, and I agree that the band really brought it Saturday and Sunday. (Friday was mediocre with a less-than-perfect encore).

The reason the lawn was full on Saturday is because they packed 24,000 fans into a space designed for 20,000. Saturday is, by and large, THE hottest ticket at the Gorge.

Bands that may have had a million people see them in the same venue - Springsteen at Giants stadium and billy Joel at MSG come to mind.

Sorry it has taken me a bit to post....

Appreciate the answer to my twitter question, Guys!
So happy to see the announcement, this week, of the Dave and Tim shows in Oakland. Very excited! High hopes in getting WH tickets for both nights .

... And, hopefully getting the chance to hang out with Jake and Ant friends, again. Good times. I'll bring my "churchkey".
