Babs I like you so I’ll let you in on a little secret. The mets’ biggest rival is time itself. The more that passes, the worse the team gets. It’s inevitable.

i was curious who's had the better overall career, pujols or cabrera. they're pretty close

    pujols
    3253 H
    667 HR
    .298 BA
    .376 OBP
    .545 SLG
    145 OPS+

    cabrera
    2872 H
    489 HR
    .312 BA
    .389 OBP
    .538 SLG
    146 OPS+

pujols has 2 more seasons than cabrera but still no chance he catches up in HR. depending on how his end of career path goes, he will likely get to 3K hits and then some

i'm sure there's a way to compare their peaks so the downward slide of their careers dont impact the numbers but i'm too lazy to figure that out because unfortunately pujols' slash line is impacted by his terrible last couple of years. seems like cabrera's on a giant downward slide as well

    both were phenomenal hitters though

Tony LaRussa came and talked at my high school one year and I remember him saying Pujols was far and away the best player he ever coached.

Well, not to tell Tony LaRussa he’s wrong - but he fucking managed Rickey Henderson who is the bestest.

eliminating the shift wont increase viewership on its own. john doe isnt going to pick up the newspaper, read the headline "MLB bans shift" and immediately subscribe to mlb.tv

but the long term effect that eliminating it would have on the game (increasing offense) will bring viewers back

Ban shift, pitch clock, reduce commercial breaks between inning by 30 seconds, all weekend games at 1pm local except Sunday Night Baseball/game of the week, and a real investment into marketing top tier players from the league.

Not a fan of the universal DH but it’s inevitable. Don’t like the idea of moving the mound back at all. The ball is fine. 7 inning double headers are nice. The 3 batter minimum has been a failure, so toss it. I can be swayed on increasing the size of the bases if it can be shown in the minor league to increase attempted stolen bases.

Pujols definitely had a higher peak, and Miggy has more consistency.

The thing is, Bart was a fairly athletic dude for his size. He was a damn good fielding pitcher. This was probably my favorite play he made as a Met: https://youtu.be/zp-27Sb-Vyg

Great play, but not quite as much when you realize they had to use a sundial to time Justin Bour from home to first.

The thing about big sexy was he had a decent swing for a pitcher. Watching his swing you could tell if he ever got a hold of one it would have some distance, he just NEVER made contact. Probably 2/3 of his AB’s were him staring at the pitch and watching it sail by, never even trying. The other third he would swing but had no fucking clue where the ball would be and he’d miss by several feet.

But that one time he made contact...

You’re describing Tim Tebow’s minor league at bats. Except he swung and missed far more often.

Eh, Tim Tebow watched the ball go by because he was bad and thought they were balls.

Barty watched the ball go by because he knew it was fruitless and didn't know or care if they were balls or strikes.

May be in a favor of robot umps after the display blue put on between SF and SD tonight. Terrible on both sides, completely inconsistent and ends the game on a K on a ball way off the plate.
