Best Venue for Listening/Chill Vibe

I'll try and be brief. Wife and I went all out for the Toronto show this year, had an absolute blast, made a really special two days out of it. The band really brought tremendous energy, our seats were dynamite and the people around us were pretty chill while seriously into the tunes.

It made us think that we should organize a trip around that same idea in the future. What we're looking for is a more of a chill venue at a great location to enjoy for a week or two.

We're a little different though, we're not heavy partiers and would want to just soak in the music/energy of our favourite band.
I remember Dave saying in an interview that one of the European shows (perhaps it was Paris) he was blown away how people were just there quietly hanging on every note and what a difference it was for the band. Not necessarily good or bad, just different.

Anyway, does anyone have any recommendations along these lines? Current tour or not. We're thinking long term either way and budget be damned so no worries there.

Thanks to all. I really appreciate having this forum as such a great resource.

I'll tell you, my show on the Gorge Lawn in 2016 was a very cool vibe. The view is unmatched, and there were families/children on the lawn. Very relaxed, but very special atmosphere. One of the cooler drives in as well, and Seattle/Portland are good places to visit while taking in a show.

I will be making a trip back there again. So worth it.

I would say Alpine Valley, and stay in Lake Geneva, but Gorge changed my mind on my favorite venue.

totally agree with Blossom and you can hit Pittsburgh on Friday Night. Pittsburgh is a completely different vibe, but you can at least hit two shows in a weekend. The drive between the two is a little under 2 hours and we have done that weekend a few times and had a blast. This year was my first trip to Deer Creek and I thought it has a super friendly vibe, not as chill as Blossom, but still great.

Blossom is located in Cuyahoga Valley National Park, it is worth spending a day or two there if you like to be outdoors. Plenty of scenic trails to walk or bike, or most of the highlights can be reached by car if you’re not big on hiking. My wife and I are also not party-goers (anymore) and we had a great weekend there this summer. Had upper pavilion seats and the people around us were friendly and into the music.

I’m planning the reverse of your trip for next year, I’m going to catch Dave in Toronto for the first time before heading up to Algonquin for a few days. I spent a week portaging there back in 2002 and it was one of the best weeks of my life. Such beautiful country you have up there.

You're going to have a blast on that trip. I absolutely love Algonquin and probably make 2-3 trips there every year to do some distance kayaking. It's a really special place that will always occupy a section of my heart. Something there just resonates with me, even more than any other park.

Sounds like we've got some good leads here, I think we'll plan at least two DMB trips, one on a European tour and one of the recommends from you guys. I seriously appreciate the replies!

I went to the show at DTE in 2016, and it's honestly such a great hidden gem. Beautiful venue, acoustics, and I had a great time on the lawn. The fan base was very tame and it was overall one of my personal favorite shows I've attended because it was such a great vibe

Sat at the top of alpine in 2016 for the end of n2 and it was magical. So much room around, it felt like I was just chilling in a park or something.

Gorge can be chill on Fri/Sat nights. Sunday nights tend to be pretty raucous as people have been partying for 3 days straight. If you get in the lawn early, you'll set next to like minded people up close and have good views and great sound.

    Blossom is the correct answer.

Gorge, get in the WH line semi early with lawn seats and go straight to the rock terraces at the front of the lawn. The further down from the walkway the better. The view is good, the sound is excellent, and the locations limits people walking through the space you are in. Nearly everyone I've sat near there has been great.

Were from Ontario too and we’ve made the trip down to Blossom with the kids for their first show a few years ago. The venue itself if beautiful, the lawn sound is great or inside of the venue is cool too. Especially when the lights hit the rafters. Lots of green space around the venue.

We took our time the next day and wandered around some trails that ran up the Cayahoga River. Lots of fun and great scenery.

Been going since 04 and not sure what this means.

Sunday night is the best show of the year usually. And the audience is not any diff than fri and sat.

Gorge is very chill. Check it out!
