I don’t think it’s trolling. I certainly wouldn’t put it in the bottom 5 but I wasn’t much of a fan the first time I heard it. It’s definitely grown on me over the years but I’ve still never understood the hype behind it.

There are some great classics that are a bit over hyped in my opinion, and I may get bashed for saying this - #40 - for one (I love it, but it gets too much hype for what a tiny song it really is)

But The Dreaming Tree deserves all of its hype. It is intricate and masterful. Everything from its composition, to the bass line, the drum work, the woodwinds, Dave’s guitar parts, the lyrics. It’s a wonderful and very progressive song. Maybe people who don’t see it aren’t into “prog” rock, but damn. To me this is the type of song that made me go “Okay, this band is deep. They are more than just some standard rock band.”

To add:

It’s okay if you don’t like the Jazz Fusion/Progressive side to this band. That’s something that makes them so diverse and great is that they touch a little bit of everything, and for someone’s Dreaming Tree there’s another persons Corn Bread. And that’s fine.

Dreaming Tree is not a great live song. It's a great song and calling it bottom 5 is beyond stupid....but it's not great live.

Oooh, I disagree wholeheartedly with this. It doesn't exactly light-up the partiers in the crowd, but it's always fun to watch them pull this one off, and that outro...Listen to some of the Summer 1998 versions, like 6.3. Roi on the sax instead of the pennywhistle, and whatever Carter's doing throughout, very tasty stuff.

My 2 cents about Dreaming Tree: (1) On BTCS, it is probably a top ten song of all time for the band. (2) Most live recordings are super, but I heard at least one stinker version. (3) While I enjoy listening to DT live, I hate it played at a concert I am attending because all I hear is a song I love drowned out by annoying conversations around me in the crowd.

This is what I meant. I enjoy listening to live DTs...but hearing at SPAC a few years ago was a major disappointment, no one cared.

Jeff in the intro to Seek Up> Roi in the intro to Seek Up. Never thought I would hear myself say that, but I think that song suits his style better.

Dave should introduce new and interesting covers to sets instead of rarities, seeing as the rarities performed post-2010 sound like thin/brutal versions of their former selves

Seek up is below average song without Boyd. That song is suppose to be pure passion. It no longer is passionate. Jeff and Rashawn intros are okay, but as mentioned above, kind cluster fucky. And the keys make it a bore.

Edit: I always considered Seek Up to be a top 10-15 song, and could argue top 3-5.

I think Dave might be too old for that passion. Sorry to say. Thank heavens we have so many versions in cache.

not a total cluster fuck like it is on most songs. Jeff by himself would destroy the song. not saying it would be better then Roi but it would be damn good

I love the new Seek Up. The one from Chicago N2 was better as far as passion goes in the end, but I love love love the key solo. Buddy is really finding his place and getting into it, and in general it feels so much more jazzy and rhythmic. He changes it up every time and has a completely different solo, so you can tell he’s fully improvising everything he’s playing.

Okay so somebody said this on the livestream chat the other night about Stefan and it made me laugh

He's an incredible bassist and I can't believe anyone would suggest he's not incredible and simply "just works with the band" or whatever
