Fill up your head and fill up you heart and take your shot
Don't waste time trying to be something you're not = LAME

    Would you like to play
    With a fool holding hands
With a one-eyed jack of spades
While on the deck they sing
All of the captain's cards are kings
Still he and the queen are lost at sea
    I hope it isn't you and me = AWESOME!!!!!!1111

    I don't get it.

In any event, I think that both albums are on near equal terms lyrically. AFTW has a slight musical edge, but not as much as you would think. Both are good albums in their own way.

I hope you're joking with that comparison. The lyrics from STJL are much more creative and make you think about what Dave is saying. I like DS, but the lyrics are kinda cheesy and they lack creativity. The lyrics you posted from STJL are making a statement that causes the listener or reader to think about what is being said and it can be taken many ways, while the lyrics from drunken soldier are pretty straight forward. While I do think some DMB fans take lyrics too seriously sometimes, I also think some fans are in denial that Dave simply hasn't been as creative with words as he use to be.

Those STJL lyrics are nonsense. We still like the song even though the lyrics mean nothing. Lyrics are highly overrated. We each take bits and pieces of a song or album's lyrics that we like and for whatever reason it resonates. "Creative Dave" writes nonsense lyrics that are open to interpretation. "Lazy Dave" writes direct lyrics with less word play. Personally i think it takes more effort to be coherent in what you are trying to say. Cute word play is just that, and often tends to be much more pretentious.

The part I like about STJL is the music, it's honestly a song I don't remember the lyrics for - and there aren't many of those
