Take it easy, brother.

Perhaps there is some merit to a few general courses at the college level, but a total of $60k for me to take Intro to Psych, Intro to Sociology, Intro to Ethics, (any other course where all you need is a pulse to pass) is a waste of time and money.

Well, now we're talking about two different things. I agree that all kinds of financial rules are fucked up. I was just pointing out that because you borrow $30k doesn't mean you owe $30k. It's much, much more.

But again, what you're saying is different, imo. Now we're talking more about legislation than "how interest works." Which again, I'm not saying you don't understand it.

    Everyone.

We don't' know what evidence will turn up. Barr testified for one day, he's basically a peripheral player in the investigation and we learned a bunch that we didn't know that morning. Barr's testimony was so bad he won't be going back unless than make him. Just wait until Mueller or McGahn testify.

Trump is obviously rattled and melting down for a reason. His been obstructing even after the Mueller report was released.

In reality, it's a little bit of "forced parenting" for lack of a better term. I don't know of a perfect solution, so this one seems pretty okay. I'd also hope that the population of that group would reduce as years go by.

It's really about trying to introduce kids (18ish-20ish) to things that maybe they haven't been exposed to, they enjoy, and they may be able to build a career from afterwards.

Nonsense. There are so many colleges, less government subsidization of loans will lead to lower tuition costs as they compete for students.

and also, the interest again. it's literally a tax on poor people who want an education, thus just another way to hold poorer people back. I borrowed $43k, paid back over $38k, and still owe $32k (which will turn into about $60k when all is said and done). It's predatory.
I feel for you brother, with those type of financials, I really do. I just don't believe taxpayers (most who did not go to college) should have to pay for a loan you willingly took out. You'll pay a lot more interest than that on your mortgage.

Before you take out loans, my question is, is the kid working through school to help cover his or her costs?

My son plans to work on campus from day 1. It will help pay for school and I think just be a good idea for him overall.

Not strictly. Coast Gaurd would be fine or whatever else. I also mentioned that just because you join the army doesn't mean you're going to be on the front lines. You can do all kinds of things...Journalism, medicine, analytics, IT, etc....

It's really to be viewed not as a punishment but just a "hey, you have to do SOMETHING" type thing.

Think of chores at home. Maybe someone would rather dust than vacuum and the other would rather vacuum than dust. That totally works. But, if you don't like either, you don't get a fee pass. That's my thought behind the idea.
