I couldn't "get" or care for this song live before the album came out. Now I'll be damned if the studio cut isn't a total beauty and perfectly showcases how good this song is!! It breathes, takes you places..Feels.

Amen. VITR might be my favorite song from the album. A real beautiful Water/Wine Jam vibe.

I’m surprised how much I like this album. It’s totally different from the big 3 or 4 but so what, we have those already. I’m so pumped this band is delivering beautiful music after almost 30 years and I truly feel bad for everyone that hates it or was disappointed by it. Hopefully it hits home for them sometime.

I'll echo the general sentiment in this thread... never understood or really enjoyed this song live. But this studio version is incredibly beautiful! Highlight of the album for me, could almost fit on BTCS.

Really thought they would play it last night... in the rain, in Virginia.

Kind of like Sleep To Dream Her, the studio version is solid but it would be a setkiller live

This is the only song on the album that is allowed to breathe. IMO could be the best track on the record (not saying much)

I'm not the biggest fan of Proudest Monkey in a live setting, but the album version is studio perfection. For me, it's about the buildup to the outro, which showcases the band's ability to create a beautiful jam with monster energy from Carter and LeRoi.

But back on topic, this VITR track is outstanding.

I think I'm in the minority here, but I've always loved this song from the very first time I heard it live. Could not be happier with the studio cut. To me, it's one of the songs on the album that really captures their live sound and feel quite well. Tim slays it! It's brilliant, and I'm very much looking forward to hearing it live this summer.

Im also really looking forward to it live. Does anyone think Dave is working on a guitar part for it? I’d love for Buddy to take the keys on this one, it could be reaaal nasty. Also a muted trumpet solo or soprano sax solo would be amazing. I have a feeling this one will be a bit of a rarity

This song is absolutely gorgeous. I've listened to it a ton since the album dropped. I get the snoozer factor with playing it live but in terms of my personal listening, I think it's amazing.

I love this song. It's interesting. A dark melody juxtaposed with uplifting lyrics. It's like the sadness that creeps in at the end of summer. Enjoy the moment.

Honestly, I think it carries a vibe DMB has never quite had on an album before. Several of these songs do. I think that's why I'm loving this album so much--they're still surprising me, and more here than they did on AFTW. I feel like on AFTW they were still trying to conjure back their past, but with both Roi and Boyd gone from the lineup they *have* to reinvent or perish.

Might be the best track on the album, but any “top 10 studio track by DMB” talk is nonsense.

I think this song is one of the most interesting in terms of sound that dave has written in a long long time. I think the same of Here on Out. Here on out is sparse but not sparse. It reminds me of when he played waste encores.

I put Virginia in the Rain into the Monkey Man, Dreaming Tree, Lying in the Hands of God category. Absolutely love this song.

Any other songs you would add to this list? Maybe Minarets?

I'm with you here. I love it at live shows and have since I caught it at Cville in 2016. It's an awesome spacey song that makes me really contemplative and emotional. The keys Dave plays live are really hypnotizing.

The album version is fantastic, as well. I really, really enjoy this track. Can't say the same for most of the rest of the album unfortunately, but I'm really infatuated with Virginia.
