Agreed. I wouldn't mind one small tie in or something but this story takes place 40+ years before FA so I would also like some new characters and stories from the 20 year gap between III and IV that we don't know yet.

The new twist is going to be that a new character is not related to anyone we know in any way.

That's what I'm hoping from Rey. After the purge of force sensitives by the Empire, it was dormant for a generation save the few big characters. Now it's is coming back strong and the next round of force users will be powerful and unconnected (so we get new connections as the stories).

I do realize that the family has been central so far though I'm fine with moving away from that as the SW universe moves forward. I'll be far happier with the next gen of films if these are wholly new characters appearing rather than continued family trees.

That was my thought. You basically have one family where all the Force is left.

Then again, how would Luke have a Jedi academy to train young Force-Sensitive children if it wasn't for more parents with Force capabilities? There's several questions that have to be answered

If I believed EI existed, I would say that maybe force-sensitive children are conceived by midichorians. But I don't.

I would have no issue with a long family tree of Skywalkers around if it was just like 'here's this character, it's Luke's daughter' or something, move on with the story. It just doesn't need to be the twist all the time.

From what I understand, it was, until eps 1-3, where the midichlorian stuff was brought in.

There's all sorts of theories about what midichlorians do/can do, etc since they are living things. I dunno what's canon at this point, but I believe in the prequels they allude to something like this regarding one of the Darths (?). I guess Episode I if that's what he's bringing up.

AT-AT's battling in the sand. 30 years later Rey lives in an AT-AT in the sand. The strings are being tied together.

I'm calling it now. New Rogue One girl is a Jedi who goes double agent to get in with Darth Vader. Pretends to turn to the dark side. They keep saying this movie will blur the lines between good and evil. So new girl has to do some bad things for the greater good. Including banging Darth Vader! Vader is Rey's father.

The AT-AT on Jakku is explained in Lost Stars. It got there after the second death star was destroyed, so there is no correlation between what you see in this trailer and Rey

She didn't mean it, cause she didn't know, but Qui-Gon says to the council "it's possible he was conceived by the midichlorians."

then it's also hinted at, but never actually said in the movies, that Sidious created Anakin. Which still is weird cause he went all the way out to Tatooine, found some slave, and knocked her up...

None of this is canon anymore, but apparently there was a book where it explained how Anakin was created back in the old expanded universe:

In addition, although Darth Plagueis did attempt to influence the midichlorians to create the ultimate Sith weapon alongside Darth Sidious, the experiment was ultimately a failure, and the midichlorians, sensing the Sith's inherent malevolent intention, not only refused to do so, but in retaliation, conceived Anakin Skywalker in order to destroy the Sith once and for all.
