If he could hit 9 times in a row and pitch, he'd probably have a few by now. Not his fault the pitching staff's ERA is somewhere around 9.23. But now that you mention it, how many World Series titles do the Nationals have? Come to think of it, how many actual postseason series wins do they have?

Bryce Harper slipped on a wet first base and hyperextended his knee pretty badly earlier. First report is it's just a bad hyperextension, but after watching it, I'd be very surprised if something isn't torn. Can't stand the guy but don't like seeing people get hurt.

Hoping it's not as serious as it looked, but I'll be pretty surprised if he didn't tear something. They said he was walking around after the game with just a slight limp (and wrap), but that doesn't always mean anything.

Yeah you can completely tear your ACL and walk like nothing happened.

As for the wet bag, why can't they make the bags with a little more traction to them? As soon as those things get wet, they're practically slip 'n slides.

    Re: The MLB Thread

Stanton has now homered in 9 of the last 10 games, and 21 of the last 33 overall. 6th fewest games to reach 250 career home runs since 1913, and only the 12th player to get to 250 by age 27. He's finally had a healthy season and we're seeing what he's capable of. Now Derek Jeter needs to open the pocketbook and get some fucking pitchers.

yeah according to Dusty, he will be back in some point before the season is over (so, at some point before October 13th, since the Nats will most likely be eliminated in the NLDS again).

    Re: The MLB Thread

so conversation I was just having with my brother and brother-in-law yesterday, regarding the Dodgers and Kershaw. That first of all I think, well obviously the Dodgers are going in the playoffs, but if Kershaw doesn't deliver in October yet again when it counts, are we not talking about basically his legacy at this point? I've looked it up, his playoff record is 4-7 with a 4.55 ERA. You can have all the best regular seasons ever, and trust me I love the guy, but if you're going to keep disappointing whenever you get the chance to go for a ring, what's the point.

like I have no doubt he'll wind up getting the insane money on his next contract anyway, but if he chokes again this postseason, if you were an executive would you still be looking to bother throwing another 8yr/$200M sort of thing at him?

    Re: The MLB Thread

i was looking at giancarlo stanton's numbers and holy shit. he wont turn 28 until after the season and he already has 250+ home runs in 8 seasons. they're not even full seasons either. he's only averaged like 120 games per year, so he's only played in less than 6 full seasons worth of games so far and already has that many HRs. baseball-reference has him averaging 43 HRs in a 162 game season. if he can stay healthy, and thats a big if looking at this games played totals, and can keep up the power, he could be closing in on 500 by the time he's 33 or 34.

he would still have to play until he's 39 and keep up those numbers of 43 per year to pass bonds, which is insane. he needs to drop some 60+ HR seasons the next few years to have a legit shot at 700+ unless he can pull a hank aaron and play until he's 42. aaron and stanton both started playing at 20. through his age-27 season, aaron had 253 HRs. stanton is at 251 as of today with a month and a half left in his age-27 season. stanton just needs to stay healthy and he can end up on some very, very short all-time lists.

600 is a very real possibility for him, but I think he lost too many ABs to injury early in his career to hit 700. If he ends up going to a different team that doesn't play in the Grand Canyon, he could threaten 700.

As far as his standing among the all-time great power hitters, FanGraphs has him ranked 8th all-time in isolated power with only Ruth, McGwire, Bonds, Gehrig, Greenberg, Williams, and Foxx ahead of him.

Yeah his contract with the Giants ended and the other 29 times were a big NOPE on picking him up. His only bet was signing in the AL to be a DH, and he couldn't even get anyone to agree to that.
