Re: **The Official Vinyl Collectors Thread**

I played face value after I saw your post today.

As in the air starts and the drum box is going it’s normal sound. When it picks up tho you can clearly hear the volume drop a tad.

I go through a soundbar now with a meh preamp. It’s noticeable now

My guess would be that the pre-amp is dying a bit

Saw a local record store selling a used copy of Phish NYE 95 (RSD) for $200. I was surprised at the cost but they're going for like $250 on eBay. I had no idea the cost for that release had gone up so much. I remember seeing a lot of leftovers after that RSD and just assumed they leveled off.

$200 is a steal now. Think they are over $300 on Discogs.

    Awesome release.

I had no idea they'd gone up that much. Like I said, I remember them going below face on eBay after RSD and even seeing them in stores several weeks after. I really thought it was a release that wouldn't see much of an aftermarket.

That's great for the release though.

Although it might seem odd to not start at the beginning, I encourage you to listen to the opening track of Uprising first (Coming In From The Cold) and crank it.

Prepare for an out of body experience.

I have never heard any other single release from Marley on any other medium sound anywhere near as good as Uprising does in this box set. In fact it sounds so good that whatever you spent, don't be surprised if you think to yourself "it's already worth it" just 60 seconds into that track.

i think it may have been you a few months ago that made me start looking for the set.

can't wait for it to arrive!

Stopped in the Magnolia store today to hear their KEF Blades, and got a steal - they had a small MoFi rack and in the back was the 2012 Music From Big Pink for $30. I believe it's out of print at this point and is going for ~$60ish to start. Sounds really nice! Michael Fremer wrote up a page about it when it was released in 2012:

I've got friends visiting from out of town and my wife's best friends 13yo daughter has been somewhat obsessed with records for awhile now (she likes "retro" things). She's been interested in records and turntables for long enough now that her mom told her she could ask me to take her to a record store on the visit. So we went today and I showed her how a record store works, her parents aren't music people, and she found 2 Billie Eilish (I had no idea who that was when we walked into the store) records and I though she was going to explode from joy. Now we are working on how she can go about getting a record player when she gets back home, how to care for the records, getting a brush, etc... Super fun to pass on the hobby.

While we were there I picked up Flying Lotus- Flamagra. I had forget that it had come out and was stoked to see it sitting there.

Anyone in need of a couple Marley albums?
    Six of them.
Survival, Live and Uprising are recent represses.
    All in great shape.
Shoot me a PM if so.
Going to just sell back to local store if nobody here needs them.

Getting ready to start packing up my collection for a move, and Im rethinking my organizational strategy. I've always kept box sets together away from my single LP's, but I'm thinking I might want to just put an artists box sets in with the rest of their stuff to so when I say "I want to listen to Jaco" I can see all my options in one glance without needing to remember that Truth, Liberty, and Soul is on a different shelf.

How do the rest of you organize various sizes of vinyl product?

I have box sets on a separate shelf, but that's mainly because my main shelf is really filling up. Otherwise Id probably integrate.

many of my box sets don't fit in the expedit/kallaxes so they all get the top shelf, and i'm pretty much out of space for that, so...

7-inches are in long storage boxes (kind of like comic book boxes except, you know, for 7-inches). 10-inches have a dedicated shelf of a kallax that my turntable sits on, which is separate from the main shelving.

I'm glad I'm consistent, I need to find more time to listen to my set as I find all the Marley albums, and this is why they're so great to own on vinyl in this collection, flow so good throughout each side. There are no fillers for me, I can listen to every Tuff Gong/Island studio album from start to finish.

Alphabetical by band name or artist last name (I pit DMB under 'M' though even though it's a band. Same with say, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers being under P, Jason Isbell & 400 Unit under I, etc...)

For box sets, the ones that fit alongside the normal size albums like the Live Trax sets, I keep on the shelf with their respective artists. The big oversized sets (Beatles In Mono, Tom Petty Studio Albums) are separate.

My collection is organized in a somewhat odd way, but allows me to get everything I need easily. I have a "top shelf section" which is all of my MoFi, Analog Productions, etc pressings. Then I have my "favorites", an area where I put all of my top-tier artists that I have multiple records of - DMB, Phish, Pink Floyd, Beatles, etc are all in this group. Then everything else is alphabetical by last name or band name, broken into Rock/Pop, Blues, and Jazz sub-sections.

It's super over-complicated I'm sure, but it works for me.

Mine is completely out of order. Going between my apartment at school and home, I guess it just works for me. When I get a job and move into a new place, I'm sure it'll be alphabetized. I have a crate where I keep my most listened so it's not hard to find which records I want to take with me/listen to.

I'll be in your neighbourhood beginning of next month. Any record stores that I should check out?
