    2) Can't Stop, Shake Me Like a Monkey, You & Me, Why I Am, Samurai Cop, Do You Remember, Stand Up (For It), Louisiana Bayou, Here On Out

I'll take the 9 BW over the assorted BW/CT/Stand Up junk. At least some of the BW stuff that they now ignore was good. Instead it's the same repetitive crap every night it seems.

I think the problem people (me included sometimes) have is that we want so badly to still love this band. It's tough to let it go.

#41 is still good, but it could be great if they went back to the sax solo. I don't understand why they don't do that. Maybe cause Roi hated playing the song?

I'd take the bottom. I really do not like BW...but I get why people would want the first choice.

Mix of Dave’s voice not having as much inflection, Carter playing less aggressive and no violin is probably what I attribute it to. All of these below don’t hit home the same way to me over the last two years.

    Two Step

    Seek Up
    Typical
    Recently
    Grey Street
    41

    Nancies
    Jane
    Jimi
    LIOG

Even Stone and BOWA to a certain extent
Maybe you need to consider taking a break from dmb next summer and come back hungry for some dmb the year after.

Lots of the songs all still hit pretty darn hard for me with the exception of ants, GS, and jimi. Stone, BOWA, Bartender, and Typical I think are exceptional in this lineup. Unfortunately, I haven’t seen Stone or Bartender with this lineup live yet.

I think my point is that maybe you are just really numb to the live dmb experience now, and maybe a break from the band for a while would help that once you finally go see them again.

Seek Up - currently very good, especially Alpine version
Typical - currently great, end jam is what they were missing for years

Recently - has lost a lot, still fun
Grey Street - I enjoy it but it's not what it was
    41 - still love it
Bartender - new end jam is great, Dave can't belt like his prime

Nancies - Tim kills it but needs violin
    Jane - haven't listened
    Jimi - whatever
    LIOG - organ is awful
So 7 of the 12 songs you listed (excluding Jane since you haven't listened) are, by your own words, either missing something or bad/lost a lot.

For that many "staples" to be in that state, it says a lot about where the band is

I will say, though, there are at least a few songs thriving in DMB 4.0: Raven, Typical, and Grace have all been fantastic.

Unfortunately none of them really get the play they deserve. And unfortunately there's a lot of songs that have "lost a lot" that are getting super frequent play.

Yup, I know this band has the potential to be so great, they will always be my favorite band, but they aren’t that currently. I’m also afraid they are tarnishing their own legacy.

DMB has maybe 4-6 years left doing summer tours. We're all collectively watching the beginning of the end of our favorite band...which is why I've been in the "enjoy the ride" mode for the last few years. There is really no use in stressing out and furiously posting over setlist variety and sound direction at this point of their career.

I agree Grace and Raven sound really good. Buddy is great on them and fills in just where he needs to without overplaying.

Well what else are we supposed to do with our pre-bed internet time

As far as timeline, I really can't see DMB still being a thing in 2023-2025.

Dave will keep playing forever though.

Discussion is cool....but there are some people on here that post with such anger and disgust and it will never make sense to me. It's like being furious that Derek Jeter was batting .256 in his final season.

I don’t get actively mad. If anything it’s disappointment and disappointment about the growing apathy I feel. The band used to take me to these incredible emotional highs even as recently as 2016, and now I feel like I’m searching for it at shows.

Father time is catching up with DMB....getting lazier, songs getting slower, shows getting shorter. 5 years from now, Dave will be singing songs a half step lower. I'm just enjoying the ride.

Dave and Tim still gets me there though, that also adds to the frustration.

I actually look forward to the two of them touring more regularly.

And it’s not the fault of Father Time, Pearl Jam and phish still are kicking it hard at their age, it really all comes down to Dave’s preferences and attitude. Only thing I can truly attribute to age is carter slowing down.

Dave is such an incredible douchebag it’s not even remotely cute anymore. He was going to hand a woman $20 because she’s paid to see him 70 times? How about saying “Thank you” to her???

I don’t care much for Phish, but the difference in Trey’s answer to this same interview question compared to Dave’s is just mind-blowing.

Also, the more times he says how happy he is with this current band, the more it becomes evident how he’s lying through his teeth every time he says it. He brings it up A LOT. They didn’t ask him about his band or his enjoyment...but he always steers it that way

For someone who keeps repeating he's just casually "enjoying the ride", you sure have strong, relentless opinions against people suggesting the band do things you don't like.

But keep pushing how chill and nonchalant you are, psycho.

Like I said, It's DMB...I don't think about it too analytically. I want to hear what I want to hear, and If I don't hear it, that's okay too. Given the choice, I would pick songs I want at a show and ignore everyone else. My opinions arn't that strong and relentless about DMB. You really need to stop. It's embarassing.

The reality of my DMB experience is that I go, I have fun, I leave, and I repeat the next year. My selfishness in a highly improbable hypothetical scenario where I play god and write the setlist is so irrelevant it's not even funny, which is why I don't understand you harping on it.

For that many "staples" to be in that state, it says a lot about where the band is
I have no "problem loving the band" at all and I'm excited about where the band is both in sound, sets, you name it

Well, that's certainly a good thing for you and I'm happy to hear it.

But not everyone is as content when, by your own definition, a large majority of classic DMB songs have "lost a lot"

Seek Up, Typical Situation, Grace is Gone, Big Eyed Fish, Raven, Say Goodbye, Bartender, Lover Lay Down, Crush, Warehouse, Tripping Billies, You Never Know, Pig, Too Much, Granny, Watchtower, Crash and others sound great to me.

As for the sets they are doing stuff like ASTB opener, Warehouse closer, segues that have never happened before, Water into Wine etc, I like where the band is currently and I'm more into it now than I had been for Boyd's last couple years. That isn't just a knock on Boyd, Tim was obnoxious and playing a crunchy tone while doubling Dave's parts constantly which has changed, it's more acoustic guitar driven now overall with the addition of keys that I've always liked for their music and an ability to play softer (GiG,LLD) that has kept getting better. I'm probably in the minority, doesn't bother me at all.

And the bold is absolutely great for you. I don't mean that sarcastically at all, either.

But as much as you probably don't like seeing people trash the sets and band, people also don't love being told they're wrong for not liking something.

And as far as the "more acoustic guitar driven now"; I don't know about that. It's still incredibly difficult to pick out Dave's guitar at times. Sure, it's better than it was when Tim was blaring to hide Boyd; but it's nowhere near the acoustic-guitar-driven band it once was.

Oh I really don't care about people trashing sets, I thought the European tour was really bad, plenty of bad shows last year, last two nights haven't been great, etc. I don't think anyone is wrong for not liking something. I'm sure you don't like things that I do and vice versa, it doesn't mean I think you are wrong.

I agree on the last part about not being what it once was, the band isn't what they once were, IMO pretty much everything is currently better than the last couple years of BT for reasons previously mentioned while their prime was '98 - '04.

The band is a nostalgic act these days. Period. They still are tight and have great energy. Always will! Not many fans follow them like they used to because of the lack of variety and responsibility, but still hit up a show or two during the Summer to catch up with old friends. The band is an old friend. Many fans including me go to bring back good memories and sing at the top of their lungs. By doing this and keeping expectations low, you'll have a much better time!
