I agree that the winter version of Can’t Stop is better than CT. This version is really good

After going through these unheard songs once I like them. Although, (and this is personal preference because I’m more of a BW fan than most here) I’d love to hear what Cavello could do with these songs. I prefer the LRB #27 to tBS #27. There are too many times that I can hear Batson things on these songs. I’m really not a fan of the layering of Dave’s vocals. To me that screams over production; see “free the beast inside of me” part of CT Can’t Stop. Barf

A poster over The weekend said they hope Arabic Joint is the SBC Soundcheck song. Man, do I hope that’s true. If Machead is DMB’s mythical Pegasus, the SBC Soundcheck is the Great White Buffalo.

I hope the third disc and the SBC Soundcheck see the light of day in the future.

100% agree, that would be incredible to hear that SBC soundcheck in more detail

People can't really believe that these entire sessions were laid down in a single day, can they? I mean, look at their history of dicking around in the studio. It took 6 years to "create" Come Tomorrow, which we now can see consists of even less 'recent work' than originally believed. These dates are either completely arbitrary, or are the dates they were compiled.

I can't get over the riff in Red Glare. Sounds like a mix of Fool To Think and The Stone.

"Red Glare" sounds like everything I hated about Stand Up to be honest.

You could probably convince me that the best stuff between these 2 discs would constitute the best release from the band since The Lillywhite Sessions. Probably wouldn't be that hard tbh.

If you are looking at this one then yeah I'm with you. But you can hear Dave directing them about when to go into the breakdown at the end and when to go to the ending. There would have been at least some overdubs of parts later, maybe a little rearranging and then Dave singing actual lyrics over it. While this isn't the first version (that soprano guitar track is clearly that) you can't use this as what a finished studio track would sound like.

Aaaaaaaaand this should /end discussion regarding this "demo" of Shotgun being anything close to a finished product. Soprano Guitar from Spring Demo Disc--> repeated riff early versions of Shotgun during first half of '06 tour--> total song restructure in Aug '06--> laying down new structure for Winter Demo Disc. Thats all this is. Batson even said himself "I wish you guys could hear the more finalized versions of these song ideas". Which lends itself to the concept that some of these were fleshed out EVEN MORE.

Red Glare is ok. I can see how it sounds like the police, though.

Never understood why so many people like Kill The King. Ask, Early Home, Drive Me Away are all good. Celebrate is better than She.

Celebrate sounds like a riff that my old band would get stuck on a jam the fuck out of for 10 minutes... then forget it.

That's not to say I don't like it... I think it's pretty cool and most probably a riff that Fonz was jamming on.

Interesting that you brought up the Beatles though b/c this reminds me of a lot of the Anthology stuff that was released. It was cool to hear those popular Beatles songs in rough form... same here with DMB tunes.

What is amazing is the band probably has 20x of songs and demos like this, that a huge portion of the fan base would pay out the ass for like the Beatles Anthology.

Don't think it'll ever happen though, unfortunately .

I’m interested if there’s any cool demos of unreleased material from the BTCS sessions. That was really the first time they had to make a new album from the ground up. With UTTAD and Crash, most of the songs they recorded already existed.

I imagine there’s a lot of unheard material from the BTCS sessions that didn’t make the final album.

Feel bad for the band that these were released, but man is it awesome to hear this stuff. I'm sure it's already been mentioned but imagine all the unrecorded and recorded stuff that we will never get to hear. A bummer.

We know from the listing on Tour Central that the BTCS Sessions began February 1st, 1998 in Sausalito, CA.

These are some songs that were recorded and not released:
Don't Burn The Pig - Possibly Dave solo, reworked into “Pig”.
Get In Line - Recorded during the BTCS sessions but not released.
MacHead - Recorded during the BTCS sessions but not released.
#40 (Always) - Possibly Dave solo.
Captain - Possibly not actually recorded, but Dave worked on it during the sessions.

Oh, I think it will happen... it's just a looooong way off. I mean, Anthology was what, 30 years or so after the Beatles were done? Hopefully DMB doesn't take that long otherwise some of us might not be here to enjoy it.

These sessions coming out remind of what some of "Anthology" is.

But then again, the Beatles also released an album every year or so (or less, in some cases). Then a year later after the break up, George released a Triple LP.... ahhh
