i’d prefer this be it. with only 6 episodes i don’t want them to give much more away, we’re only about 5 weeks out.

He's one of the executive producers of the show and wrote 1 episode in each of the first 4 seasons. To think he has not been involved in the storytelling is naive.

I was genuinely starting to think they were going to be ballsy enough to not even give us this. I have zero doubt this is the last we get.

and FYI there was press about this yesterday, GRRM has not even read any of the s8 scripts, much less had the least bit of input on them. Well, I mean he had that big meeting with D&D a long time back when it was obvious the show would finish first where he gave them main bullet points on the ending, but plenty of things could be changed on the way there.

What cracked me up most about his new quotes, he was saying there was some talk of him filming some kind of little cameo, but he was just never able to make it over there during shooting because of "the writing I've been doing on Winds Of Winter".

oh, so NOW you're actually trying to finish it?

in the first four seasons the showrunners had books to use

its obvious GRRM is less involved, and possibly less invested in the show at this point

Re: A Game of Thrones (HBO Series)

I'm in the middle of doing a complete binge/re-watch and committing to seeing it through to the end. In yrs past there's been a few times i've given it a shot but never gotten past S1, so other than S1 the rest I've not re-watched since the original airing so there is a ton of stuff i'd forgotten or have a completely different perspective on now after going through it once already. So I'm in the midst of S3 last night and I'm about 20 mins into the episode and all of the sudden I realize - aw FUCK, its the Red Wedding ep - and immediately I get this really upsetting pit in my stomach. Feelings of total fear and anxiety start to wash over me, the pit in my stomach seems to be getting deeper and more and more uncomfortable. Then when they get start of the actual scene I start to panic and my hands start to sweat and my hearts racing and I'm just in a state of misery and fear waiting for it to get over with. It was crazy intense how I reacted to it.

After it was all done I sat there and asked myself when was the last time i had that same type of visceral reaction to any tv show or movie that I could compare it to and I couldn't really think of one. Maybe when I saw A Quiet Place in the theater I had that same type of anxiety, but that was a horror movie I had never seen before and had no idea what was coming or what to expect. With this I had scene it before and knew exactly what to expect, yet I was still horrified. Kinda shocked I still had that intense of a reaction to the episode after watching it and reading and discussing at length yrs earlier.

The actor who currently plays the Night King (it is a different guy than the very first time) he gave a rare brief interview, and I guess some fans may consider this spoilery what he says, but I guess that's interpretation.

The crux of what he's saying is the WW are not just a mindless force of evil coming to trample everything in their path. He gets a little more specific than that, but not details like names or anything. In fact I'd think many fans would've guessed this much already anyway.

Wouldn't say anything he said is too spoiler-y unless you're trying to go into the new season completely blind.

Either way, that interview got me real hype. Him saying his favorite Night King scene was yet to come sounds like some cool shit coming.

These may be elongated episodes for the final season here, but not ALL of them. Official word on episode 1 and 2 is 54 minutes and 58 minutes, respectively. But each of the remaining four should be at least 80, including the Winterfell battle for e3 being closer to 90.

I'll just be very curious to see, with how this show has so often done the penultimate episode is really the big one, then the finale acts as more of a calmed down sorta of coda, to what degree they may follow that formula here.

i started my rewatch about a week and a half ago, i'm on s3e7 as of this morning's train ride

i last watched the earlier seasons a few years ago when i started watching the show, plowed through them all and then i was caught up with everyone for the start of s5. i remember most of the major events that happened, but rewatching them again prior to s8 has made me pick up on smaller intricacies that i didnt get before

also, Charles Dance as Tywin might be the greatest casting choice they made. Phenomenal actor. Its almost a shame Tywin was killed

streaming it through HBO GO app. i can usually watch about 20-30 min of an episode, even with all the buffering. its annoying AF, and a few times i've stopped it entirely and done something else on the ride, but then i finish the episode on my lunch break on the wifi connection at my office

i tend to agree about being mindful of spoilers, but for fairly recent episodes.
For something that happened almost 5 years ago, it's fair game, IMO. If i were a new viewer, i would be avoiding this thread until i'm caught up

you're a brave one to watch this show on a train. I stopped watching certain shows at the gym because too many boobies. Even if people know it's GoT, I'd still feel awkward having nudity pop up on something I'm watching in public.

the gym is one thing because you're generally resting the device fairly far away from you.

if someone is enough in your business to see what you're watching on a device on a train, you've got much bigger problems than them seeing boobies

Yea, I tried to watch GoT on a plane once. You don't realize how much fucking is in that show until you're watching it surrounded by strangers.

Re: A Game of Thrones (HBO Series)

Maybe it's because I've never been a "go to the gym" guy, but just Thrones of all shows just doesn't seem like it'd be one conducive to watching while I'm working out (& that's nothing even to do with the nudity). I mean, does it make a difference between if you'd be watching it for the first time like that, versus just using the opportunity as a rewatch? I just feel like it'd be hard to keep my attention on it.
On a train I could more understand because you can put all your focus on it, but even then, I only want to watch Thrones if I'm doing so on the biggest damn screen that I own. which for me right now is my desktop computer monitor at 42".

and well at least with this show they tried to do you a favor and the nudity and blatant sex scenes goes down drastically in later seasons I still kinda vaguely remember that one SNL sketch after its first couple years, Andy Samberg playing some like teenage consultant helping writing the show. "bathroom break!"

I've been watching a bunch of Youtube videos that go more into the history of things based on the book. It's truly fascinating how deep and intricate this story is. I watched one of the crypts of Winterfell and what they could mean in S8. Mind blown! I'm going to have to get the audio books and listen to all the books and prequels.
