The best way to get into a genre that you're not really that keen on, in my opinion, is to start at the outer edges. Albums that are kind of post-rocky, but not really. Try Silver Mtn. Zion's newest one, 13 Blues for Thirteen Moons. At some points, it's just a rock song. I'm sure you'll find the more ambient buildups unnecessary, but give it a try.
And maybe give post-metal a try, as it's a little more involved and obvious than post-rock. Russian Circles' "Station" wouldn't be a bad start.
