2013, assuming summer ends up with an Alpine show, will be my first year there. I'm excited!

Be prepared for all other venues to become not quite as epic.

I was talking to MColin yesterday about it and he was telling me to be prepared for how "steep" the venue is.

It will be, and you will immediately feel like every other show you attended was somehow inadequate.

Fuck no....United Center was the only one that could have happened without significant travel expense/time off work....You can definitely relate to me on this one. Being a fan in the Midwest sucks. Honestly would have loved to go but I dont feel quite as pissed anymore after seeing the set....Anyways, just looking forward to next summer already.

    You make it/going to any?

I got the good end of the stick Midwest wise. One hour to Chicago. 45 Minutes to Alpine. 4 hours to Deer Creek. Needless to say its not as good as living in New York, but I got to see five shows this year without ridiculous traveling or even bad traveling so Im happy

    Yeah that kinda fell through

Stuck in southern fucking MN for the near future. Its no surprise we have a high suicide rate around here. Nothing but country music on the radio and flat, endless fields to look at all day long.......

Tried convincing the wife we should move to NY state but she wont after learning the cost of living there.....Is it weird to consider moving to a distant place just so you can see a band more????

I also turn down promotions at work because it would mean switching to full time and working alot of weekends....would pretty much mean no more shows. Fuck that.

Im fine with so-so pay if its part time. As long as i have the hope of the summer tour, im Okay.

Sometimes I question whether all of this is idiotic or not....I mean they could call it quits anytime, Dave could die, whatever. I just figure im going to ride this train until it comes to a complete stop.

Isnt it crazy how we re-arrange our lives for something as trivial as a musical act?

The way I see it you structure your life around things you enjoy. If going to shows is what you enjoy most you do what you can to make that possible. Im a college student so summer tours are a piece of cake for me. Driving up to the UC From the university of Illinois and back on one night was less easy haha

Pretty much how I like to see it. I make enough to pay the bills, and i have time to spare to enjoy myself. Why should we spend our lives slaving away for the man if there is no time for play?

God how our generation is different from our grandparents.

Considering making the alpine trip next summer. I've never been. What's it like in the area? I know the shows will be awesome, but what's the town like? Is it camping, hotels, what's there to do during the day?

The only thing I know about it is that its crazy hot there according to people I've talked to at other shows.

There is no town. Closest town is, IDK what even. Whitewater? And they have like 1 hotel. Janesville is probably the closet real town. Most people camp in the various campgrounds around there, some are more tolerant of partying, some less, which is nice for those looking to sleep vs rage all night.

You really dont need things to do though. Go set up your camp, tailgate in the lots till show time, show, post show tailgate till you can leave the lots, get to your campground, eventually sleep, repeat. A big piece of the Alpine experience is the lots.

If I camped I'd definitely want the quieter lots. I'd be going with my wife if we go and we aren't crazy party people.

Hm. I havent camped lately, with no Alpine 2 years ago, and stayed at a friends house last year, but 08-10 me and my girlfriend stayed at Kettle Moraine Whitewater Lake campground. It was like 15-20 mins to and from the shows but definitely quiet and mellow. Campground staff does a good job of making sure only folks who are supposed to be there are there, and keep it down. Im not sure if theres closer options, but if you arent crazy partiers then a short drive isnt as much of an issue.

You won't regret going to Alpine. It's worth the trip. I finally made my first trip there last summer and it was amazing. Stayed in Milwaukee which is around an hour away and did premier parking. Something I'd def do again

You won't regret going to Alpine. It's worth the trip. I finally made my first trip there last summer and it was amazing. Stayed in Milwaukee which is around an hour away and did premier parking. Something I'd def do again
Ill be making to Alpine at some point for sure. I've been to the Gorge, Cville, WPB I just have to go to Alpine, SPAC, MSG, and hopefully Red Rocks to complete the DMB venue experience.

Idk if I will be able to make it to anywhere but Atlanta and Charlotte this summer though. I'm getting married in June and funds will be at a premium.

I'm thinking about making the Charlotte trip our honeymoon. It's close, affordable and somewhere we've never been as a couple. Plus she loves DMB now and can't wait to see them again after the Duluth show this winter ( it was her first) so that would be a cool thing for our honeymoon that would also stay within the budget.

I live 45 minutes away. I drive there and back for both shows. That is the best part about the weekend

The only thing I know about it is that its crazy hot there according to people I've talked to at other shows.
Yeah dude Alpine is just kinda in the middle of nowhere....Its literally like: Cornfield, cornfield, cornfield....Alpine.

Closest towns would be elkhorn or delavan I believe....and there is nothing there.

We just camped last year and spent the mornin drinking and relaxing then heading to the lots around noonish. Thats where the real party is.

You really dont need things to do though. Go set up your camp, tailgate in the lots till show time, show, post show tailgate till you can leave the lots, get to your campground, eventually sleep, repeat. A big piece of the Alpine experience is the lots.
Anyone got a good list going of the "sleeping campgrounds" versus the "raging campgrounds"?

We stayed at Rome Riverside last year and it was a bit subdued for my tastes. Bark river more party oriented?

Is it too early to start the Alpine 2013 thread?
Boyd confirmed there would be a summer tour.
