Who just goes for the Big 3?

Probably could be a poll if I knew how that works.

Question is: How many go to the live show for hopes of jamming to a Big 3 song? and everything else is what it is.

How many just want to hear good jams and song selection regardless of era?

How many go just to chase a song?

How many go with no expectations and just glad to watch the band?

How many go just for the scene, party and crowd?

I'm mostly a one (big three songs with everything else being is what it is). I no longer go to shows with high expectations and I no longer song chase. I've found that I am enjoying shows much more that way.

I enjoy songs from SU all the way to Come Tomorrow. I'd prefer if I got more Big 3 songs at my show but I enjoy a good deal of stuff after Busted Stuff.

I don't go in hoping for anything really specific and I don't care at all about the social aspect, for me it's all about the following:

    1. Songs I love getting played, regardless of which ones
    2. Enjoying seeing music played at such a high level
    3. Drawing inspiration from #2

R2T -> BS is what I'm always aiming to hear. I'm starting to hit a ceiling on my song chasing. I only have a handful that they still play that I have yet to hear. Drive In, Drive Out being #1

The shows that we say aren’t good usually have one thing in common

    Lack of big 3 material

Chasing songs with this band is a losing battle. Gave up on that years ago.

I just go in with no expectations and for the good times and a nostalgia trip. Staying focused during a DMB these days is impossible as pretty much anything played outside of 1991-2004 (with a couple rare exceptions) is a piss break/opportunity to walk around.

Who just goes for the Big 3?

I love live music in general and DMB has it down.

I go to see a good show and I’ve seen a fair few considering how late I got into the band. Like Nick said, the common denominator with most good shows is a high % of Big 3 (4 including BS) so maybe I fall into that first category more than I think.

I’ve never really added a show just to chase a song (MSG this year for Last Stop *RIP* is probably the closest I’ve come) but I usually just try to plan trips to places that have a history of getting rarer stuff with better sets and it’s usually worth the effort.

I used to get like 10-15 friends/girlfriends every year for Mansfield and we’d party kind of hard but I got sick of dealing with the headache all that entails a little more each year so the “social aspect” has kind of just whittled down to the people who care about the music.

They've written a lot of great songs since 1998. I couldn't imagine there are that many people still seeing this band in 2021, and only hoping for the big 3. I could be wrong though.

I go see DMB because they are an amazing live act with an insane amount of musical talent, have a great light/stage show, and I know every song they play. There arn't that many other bands in my life that check those three boxes off.

Not in comparison to other bands, which is A-OK for DMB

I mean, just because other bands are better doesn't mean DMB isn't great. I see a lot of concerts at Jones Beach, and putting my love for DMB aside, their presentation is always top notch in terms of being visually appealing. It's certainly not Phish, but they're a solid 7.5/10

Bands can go overboard with effects too.
    See, or not, UM
They had an insane light show, so much so that you couldn’t see if anyone was actually on stage half the time.
It was impressive if you wanted to see a light show but not so much if you wanted to see a live concert

Like others, I go because I enjoy the shows. In the last few years, I've traveled a bit to see them--but I've done that for other bands as well. I wouldn't say I song "chase" but i always have thoughts of, I'd like to hear XXXX, but it doesn't upset me or disappoint if I don't. I'm definitely not there for the social aspect, as I go to shows solo from time to time.

I guess I still just like the band, I like the shows, and I don't really think about the other stuff.

Re: Who just goes for the Big 3?

hearing Warehouse live is a thing for me. if they play Dancing Nancies before it, even better b/c that's my second fav dmb song. those are always what I hope for. but i love the segues. proudest monkey>satellite at msg was so f'in smooth, and i'm not even a big fan of either song. i literally yelled "holy fucking shit, did you hear that?" to my buddy when "two step" turned into "halloween" that same show. ants>halloween>ants marching from AC is also one of my favorites. recently>LIOG from red rocks 95, i can't listen to one with out the other. big eyed fish>bartender is always a highlight. Jimi thing w/ whatever they decide to add to it is always cool.

i might be in the minority here, but live covers usually kick my ass. 'sledgehammer' is probably in my top ten of songs i want to hear at a dmb show. i love when they do 'stairway' at the end of watchtower. i saw 'hey hey, my my' and 'down by the river' with warren haynes. 'sugar man' turned me onto sixto rodriguez.

i guess thats a long way to say i go for the music lol
